Rape (unless it is between a husband and wife) is covered under the 7th commandment: Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not kill doesn't originally cover child abuse, but Jesus' modification of it, to not think evil of another person in your heart, or to say 'Raca' (violent interjection) covers everyone, both adult and child.

Or slavery.
Starting a war would have been a good one to prohibit.
The 'punishment' for raping an unmarried woman, in the Old Testament, is 50 Shekels paid to her father and you can never divorce her.
So, in other words, rape that is not adultery (where the woman is the property of another man) is essentially just an early and unexpected honeymoon. If the man is married, it is irrelevant in the OT, as polygamy was openly endorsed and practiced.
The only time it would be considered adultery is if the woman was married, and she would be just as likely to be put to death as the rapist, if it were suspected that she did not put up enough of a fight.
Lovely book, the Bible.
The nonsense being posted here about the adultery prohibition really raises questions about the intellect and education of many of the Christians doing the posting.

Adultery is. That simply means that God allows rape within the boundries of marriage.
Am I offended by that? No. I think the 10 commandments are rather silly. Not one of those 10 'rules' makes sense. Every situation can be an exception to each of those so called rules.

i realize this is not a dirrect reply to your question and i appologize, but i would like to say something here...
the Bible does not put women as second-hand-people or anything of the sort. i'm reading judges at the moment and while the rest of the world was against women, God uses women like Debora and many others to do His will.
God does not condone rape. rape is in the ten conmandments...multiple times...hmmm....don't covet, don't comit adultury, but mostly to me that no one's mentioned is...DON'T STEAL rape is most deffinantly stealing something from another human being. no where in the Bible does it say that every thing that happens in it is ok. in fact, the majority of the Bible is God telling us what not to do and what will happen if we do. read God's response, not just the verses that you feel like back up your opinion.

Of course it offends...but a lot of the bible is offensive--especially to women. Women, in general, get the short end of the stick in that religion...actually in most religions.
Men are the big-dogs and women just supply cooking/cleaning services and an orifice....why show any respect or set any rules? We're not important like the guys are. Screw that!

Thou shalt not covet.....if you don't covet to start with then rape will not happen.
Ms. Godless is wrong...it was Lot who did that. Does the Bible say that GOD agreed with Lot's move there?? NO.
Why do ppl need to be treated like small children? Are there not certain things that don't necessarily need to be said.

I am offended that it is elsewhere in the Bible, and not exactly portrayed as a bad thing (I think Abraham tossed the women in his house out to some rapists so they wouldn't rape his male guests or something).

The Bible condones and even approves of rape so of course it's not in the Commandments.

Neither are a lot of things that are forbidden. The law and the prophets are based on "Love the Lord your God and Love your Neighbor as yourself" which would condemn rape.
