here is the home make version if you want to try and make them yourself. yellow cake for Twinkies (for Blondie's add yellow frosting) chocolate for Ho-Ho's and add dip in fug frosting. If you want to make filled treats vs sandwich's make cup cakes and pipe filling with a bag or gun(piping guns are easier in my eyes but with piping bags you have more control )

Well, I've not heard them referred to as bars, but when I last saw them, Twinkies were little oblong cakes with a cream filling inside. They are essentially all sugar, which is why they are a favorite (at least as a cliche) among sugar junkies.
Twinkies came to notice in the late 1970s, when a man who had been on the Board of Supervisors of San Francisco County, Dan White, got all sugared up and went and shot mayor Moscone and another member of the Board of Supervisors, Harvey Milk. This was especially important because Milk was openly gay.
When Dan White came to trial, his lawyer successfully argued for a diminished capacity defense, based on his hypoglycemia and having had a lunch consisting mostly of Twinkies. Hence the term "The Twinkie Defense."

A Twinkie is a children's dessert. With all the sugar hype, it isn't such a healthy treat. We loved these as children, and they were made better. It is a light yellow cake, with a cream filling, usually come two in a package. I can barely eat a Twinkie now, it tastes so different. Little Debbie treats are a favorite, especially anything with peanut butter.

Twinkies are made by Hostess.
It is a yellow sponge cake with white cream inside. It's about 3-4 inches long and yeah, I guess the shape is rather turd like as another answerer says.
