Why do some people choose to not believe in God or a higher power?

It is actually quite easy to explain. Any of these things could have occurred in their lives. 1) They have had damages in their childhood leaving them bitter at God. 2) They were raised in a non believing family and chose to remain ignorant in adulthood. 3) They are shame based and due to their sinfulness do not believe that God could ever forgive them for their horrible sins. 4) They choose to ignore the over 1000 prophesies that have come true, and are documented in history. Instead they would rather believe the very disputable "evidence" presented to validate the lunacy of evolution. Many reasons, many issues. A mentor once said to me, so many hurts, so many hangups, so little time to heal them all, well guess that is why we have Jesus Christ, the ultimate healer! God's blessings to you!

I don't think that 'belief' is a 'choice' ... it 'just happens' ... and if you 'believe in God' or a Higher Power you have 'faith' ... and that is like seeing a 'huge deep canyon wider than the Grand Canyon and closing your eyes and taking a step and being on the other side ... where when you 'turn around' the 'huge canyon' is only a 'line in the sand' ... so some people just aren't able to make 'that leap of faith.' Give them a break ... they 'need it' and so do you.

It's more natural to not believe in a higher power, because without the idea being given to you by some form of education, you may have never even considered it.

It's like believing that there's an invisible cow wearing a space suit orbiting Mercury - it's entirely improbable, but you can't prove it isn't there, and without me typing that you'd likely never have thought of it in the first place.

I don't believe in a higher power, there doesn't need to be a reason for it, it's just my natural state.

It is not because I 'choose' not to believe. It is because I know without a doubt that there is no such thing as god. God is a creation of man, a myth, a story. There is no credible evidence that would state anything different.

It's illogical. The universe is amazing enough in itself, without inventing something infinitely more amazing still to have created it.

Because their minds are made to work that way.
Like some of them want to know what God is "made up of", what he is, how it's possible...
their minds are made to think science, not faith.

The complete absence of credible evidence.

The fact it's trivially easy to prove that there is no deity.

Either works.
