firstly, corriander and cilantro are the same thing. We british say corriander and you guys say cilantro.
secondly, corriander is very good in indian, thai, middle eastern and oriental dishes. and south american! its also good in salads!
With pasta, i dont think corriander works that well! why dont you try mother of all italian herbs - basil!
its brilliant, but in a few torn/crush leaves in the sauce!

Try Basil it's great with most pasta and tomato dishes. Otherwise I would stick with the oregano.
Coriander is used in more Eastern dishes.

Coriander is a very different taste to oregano and I wouldn't recommend using it in pasta/tomato dishes. Try basil - fresh of course as the fragrance of the leaves is divine.

I always use oregano or basil in Italian and other Mediterranean dishes, coriander is for spicy dishes like curries. I suppose it's all a matter of personal taste.

Your brother is wrong Coriander is great for white sauces and in salsa (it is also known as Cilantro) but a dismal match for pasta sauce, instead try Basil for a refreshing and lighter tasting alternative to Oregano.

corriander is the seed of the cilantro plant. many people dn't like cilantro. Corriander will give a pasta dish a latin flair. not sure if that's what you're going for. stick with the oregano or sub. basil for mediterranean pasta dishes.

I agree with you guys !
Italian food with Oregano ...or Basil.
As for Coriander we name it in french also :
"Chinese Parsley" or "Arabic Parsley" '
as opposed to the "Parsley". It's because it's used only in exotic dishes. never with french or italian ones.
But I've seen english people invent surprizingly creative food combinations so you may want to try your way.

oregano - but try basil and flat leaf parsley as well - coriander is more for Mexican, Indian, or Asian flavors to me
