If I buy a new bottle of whiskey... should I let it sit for a few years, or should I drink it?

I'm going to be getting one, and leaving it for about 20 years.... but I was wondering should i get another to drink, or drink something else?

You won't gain much. (Before I explain why, I should tell you I'm a Scotch drinker, I don't drink bourbon or whiskey.) All whiskey is aged in oak kegs, and the tannin in the oak has a mellowing affect on the whiskey. When whiskey is bottled, it will remain pretty much in the aged condition for the remainder of its life. Glass won't help to mellow it further. Years ago, I heard that you can improve a cheap whiskey by adding wine to it. The guy said to open a bottle and pour one shot out and drink. He then said you take one shot of port wine and pour back in the bottle. Cap it, and let it sit for a few months. According to him, it made cheap whiskey much better. I've never tried it, but it sounds like it may improve the whiskey.

You can't age whiskey in glass bottles. It's aged in wood casks. Over time, it absorbs quality of the wood; it can't do this in glass.

There's no reason to keep it.

Go ahead and buy 2. I think there is nothing wrong with that.

I think that you should just wait 20 years to get drunk.
