Some say Jesus didn't go to Hell he went to Sheol.
I don't think there is a consensus on this issue.

I don't see a question in there. But I'll assume you imply that there is a conflict.
Your lack of understanding of the Bible is the main source of your conflict.
What is hell, according to the Bible?
For the majority of the uses, the term 'hell' refers to the grave. It is also more loosely, or poetically, referring to "the place of the dead." It is translated from the Hebrew, 'Sheol' and the Greek, 'Hades'.
It is NOT a place of everlasting fire or torment. That is a myth, invented by men; it is not in the Bible. Neither is it a prison, in which the spirits of people LIVE, awaiting judgment.
The Bible does describe a place of fire and torment, however. It is figuratively referred to by Jesus as Gehinnom (mistranslated as 'hell'), and more graphically referred to in Revelation as "The Lake of Fire." It is not were wicked people will be punished forever, but where they will be destroyed, permanently.
Hell, the grave, is not the place where the wicked and sinners go; it is the place where EVERYBODY goes, righteous and wicked.
Now, did Jesus die? Yes, he ceased to function in a conscious state -- his body would have decomposed if it were left in the grave any longer; his mind was unknowing and unthinking, just as we are when we die. Did he go to hell? Yes, he was in the grave for three days and three nights. Did he go to the Lake of Fire? No. The Lake of Fire will not exist until Christ returns to this earth; and the first persons to be thrown into it will be the Beast king and the False Prophet (a.k.a. Antichrist).
Now, let's examine the Scripture that you are perverting to ask your question:
1 Peter
3:18 -- For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,
3:19 -- through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison
3:20 -- who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,
So, Jesus, who has existed with God for eternity, went to preach to the "spirits in prison." But what prison? Hell isn't a prison. This speaks of this life on earth as a prison to those who are prisoners of sin! And it was to those who were about to drown in the Great Flood, who were preached to, by the spirit of God and Christ, through Noah, in Noah's lifetime!
So:
A) Yes, Jesus was three days and three nights in hell, the grave -- the Bible does say that.
B) Jesus was without sin -- the Bible does say that.
C) Hell is not where only sinners go -- the Bible says that too.

hell is a made up word that is found nowhere in accurate translations of the Bible
true Christians do not believe their God who is love, would create a place to consciously torment a human being.
the Bible says that when you die you are not conscious of anything, you do not go anywhere; see Ecclesiastes 9:5
Jesus promised that a day was coming when his Father would install His Kingdom "on earth as it is in heaven" and all the dead would be resurrected.
there are 3 words in the Bible which are rendered in some translations as "hell"
Sheol
Gehenna
Hades
Sheol = the grave
Gehenna = a literal place where trash was burned into ashes in Biblical times
Hades = the Greek equivalent to the Hebrew word Sheol
there is also the symbolic "lake of fire" but if you think about it, what would happen to you in a lake on fire?
you would drown beneath or burn above... either way you would be dead, not eternally suffering, just dead... non-existant
Tomoyo K posted the correct view of the meaning of that Scripture
agape!

That is baloney. I would like to see Atheists and Agnostics to agree on things. Free will makes things interesting.
The main thing is not that we agree on everything and we have the same worship style and we understand everything. We do not have to know everything about the Bible. And everything is not recorded in the Bible. It is a mistake to think that partial record is false.
The main thing is to believe that Jesus died for us so that we do not have to be separated from God in eternity. He did not have to do it, but God loved us so much that He made it possible that sin is never going to separate us from Him if we do not deny Him.
It is a good thing to have big expectations. Just do not be unreasonable. : )

Jesus went to Sheol (Hebrew name). Hades (Greek name), a place where all the Spirits went after they died, as no spirit could yet enter Perfect, sinless Heaven until God paved a way for us with Jesus's blood that wiped our sins away if we accepted this gift of truth. Since Jesus did this for us, those who believed were taken to Heaven when Jesus went to Sheol "to set the captives free" (1 Peter3) and to proclaim His victory. Sheol had 2 compartments then. 1 side for the saved and the other side for the unsaved. It had a chasm between where no one from 1 side could enter the other side. Read (Luke16 about Lazarus and the rich man). Jesus took the believers on the saved side to heaven and since then when we die, believers' spirits go directly to heaven. This 1 compartment was emptied by Jesus and only the unsaved side of Sheol/Hades remains for the unbelievers whose spirits go there when they die. Your question is an example of trying to make the Bible look as if it has contradiction, when it does not. Contradictions in the Bible is just the ignorance of man. (Not trying to put you down, just stating the fact that you just didn't know). Read more of the Bible and pray for understanding which comes from the Holy Spirit who indwells the Believer. The final Hell is called The eternal lake of fire where Sheol/Hades, the Antichrist, the False prophet , satan and the unfaithful nonbelievers will go for eternity. Not my will, but God's will be done. Amen.

After Jesus died, he spend 3 days in hell (english) /sheol (hebrew)/ hades(greek)/ grave (eng)/ tomb(eng), hölle(german). 3 days after he was ressurected.
After Jesus was raised up, the apostle Peter quoted what was written in the Bible about Jesus, saying: “His soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.” (Acts 2:31, King James Version; Psalm 16:10) No, the body of Jesus never had time to become corrupt in the grave, that is, to decay and smell bad.

C- Hell is not a place of fiery torment where sinners go, and the immortality of the soul is a false doctrine
Hell is known as Sheol (Hebrew) or Hades (Greek) and simply means the common grave of mankind, or the ground. It also says in the Bible that Job and King David, both loyal worshippers of God, "lay down with their forefathers in sheol."
As for the immortal soul, Psalms tells us that "the soul that is sinning, it itself will die." How could an immortal soul die? The word for soul in the OT is nephesh, and it means "breather." Genesis says that "man came to be a living soul."
Man IS a soul, not the posessor of one.
Great question :0)

Each sect and denomination teaches something slightly different from one another. Some Christians will say hell and some will say sheol or the grave. It's pretty confusing to me as well as many people.

No one really knows for sure. It is assumed that he want to hell because of these verses:
18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison 20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.

Answer from the orig texts of the Bible:
First of all, no matter how good or bad you are in life, to be absent from the flesh is to be present with the Lord. That means that anybody who dies goes back to God.
All those who died before the crucifiction, did not have the benefit of salvation thru the blood shed on the cross.
Christ, while still "in the tomb" went to all those who died before, and let them know that the price on the cross for salvation was now accomplished. You didn't think that he was gonna just forget all those from before did you?
So where was it that he went to tell all of those folks who had already died, that he accomplished the task? Obviously, he went where they are: In Heaven, with God, some waiting for good judgement, some waiting for bad, but all souls are there, and thats where he went -
