Tea does have caffeine, however I've been known to drink an entire pot of green tea just before bed and go straight to sleep. Coffee definitely has more caffeine than some tea.
If you're looking for something that will keep you awake without being so harmfully diuretic, black tea is a good choice.

It's not the tea or coffee it is the caffeine. Tea has less caffeine in it so you would have to drink lots more to get the same effects. Here is some interesting information on coffee that you may want to read.

tea has caffeine in it like coffee does, if thats what you want to know, caffeine is a drug known to stimulate the brain and increase metabolism for short amounts of time so yes...tea can help you feel more awake similar to the way cofee does.
