I just want to mention don't be surprised at all the different spellings for Arabic words. They are Western transliterations of sounds that were heard by someone who tried to put down on paper what he had heard. Some spellings are more popular and accepted than others. At first when I tried to read about Islam I was confused by all the different spellings until I read about this somewhere.
The kaaba is the square stone building that houses the black stone. It is usually covered with a decorative cover.
