What a load of racists there are on these boards. Asians generally don't have dogs because keeping pets isn't a major part of their traditional culture. Animals are kept to farm.

I think most (certainly not all) asians are brought up to be afraid of dogs. I have a dalmatian and they usually run away from her. Also the kids scream when they see her. Dalmatians look pretty harmless so I wonder how they'd react to a Great dane!
Because they react in a scared way this makes my dog confused and she starts barking at them. Also she doesn't like people who wear head scarves. She would never attack a person, she just barks.
I took my nan's dog for a walk the other day and a black family were walking past. She went mad. She is ususally really good with people but I think it is the first time she has seen a black person. Was pretty embarassing!!

I'm not sure if you're just being racist and asking why American Asian people don't have dogs or if you got confused asking a question about Asian dog breeds.
But, I will go with the latter and say that there are many breeds of dog that come from Asia. Such as the Japanese Chin, Spitz and Terrier; the Afghan Hound; the Poong san; the Himalayan Sheep dog; the Tibetan Mastiff, Hound; etc.

Thats a bit of a generalisation is it not? Also quite racist... I mean how would yu like it if we based our opinion of you on the types of questions you answered and asked? I mean, I could quite easily pin point you as someone who doesnt work, sponges off the government, ha s a low level of education adn sits at home watching shows such as Jeremy Kyle ect ect ect, the list is endless. It isnt fair , is it? I mean, I could have seen it all wrong, but how do you think these Asian people would feel knowing that someone would even ask this question? Maybe think before you ask such silly and possibly hurtful questions......

My wife is asian and her parents have a dog.
That's a weird question. Why do you think Asians don't have dogs??
China passed a law recently saying that families were only allowed to have one dog...others would be killed. So, that sort of proves a point that asians, Chinese especially, do keep dogs as pets. Some keep many.
Now why do you think they don't?

Used to be- they couldn't afford to. There wasn't enough food to feed PEOPLE- forget dogs (in fact- sometimes "dog" was on the menu..). That's beginning to change now... -But in a world where there are more & MORE human mouths to feed, I don't think Asians will ever have as many pets as we do.

They do have dogs.
And not all asian people eat them either. Yes, they are used for food in parts of Asia, but they do have a very definate distinction between their pets and the animals they are going to eat.

Asian people do have dogs. What makes you think they don't? In some parts of Asia, dogs are raised for food, but that isn't true of all Asian countries.

I imagine that they see a differance in pets, and food, it is true that in parts of asia they do eat dogs as it is a natural form of food to them, we as europeans find this distastful, and abhorant, when i take my two boxers for walks asians do not like them and do seem scared, even though one of my boxers is only 14wks old, they stand with hands cluching their chest, i think its just that they do not own pets, so are afraid of them.

Some do.
Muslims don't keep dogs as (I believe) there's something in their religion that forbids it, but I know of quite a lot of asian dog owners living in my area.
Hope that clears things up.
