Do the Cognitive side effects of topamax, discontinue when you discontinue taking this medication. I recently discontinued topamax after taking it for a year due to intercranial hypertension. While on topamax I had problems with memory and concentration. Thanks

Oh, I am on Tomamax. I didn't notice any cognitive side effects any different than normal. I take it for migraines. How much were on? I have been on it for 4 months. I take 100 mg. I will have to talk to the doctor when I call about a refill. They have stopped my migraines.

I do have the tingling at times that sometimes drives me nuts. I also had the weight loss, which was good. I lost about 16 pounds.

Here is a website on Topamax side effects but it doesn't talk about long term effects. http://www.topamax.com/html/ptop/about-topamax-what-to-expect.jsp
Difficulty with concentration/attention and difficulty with memory
TOPAMAX may make it hard to concentrate. Some people may have memory recall issues. This reaction varies, but people have described it as "difficulty finding the right word" or "losing my train of thought."

Talk with your healthcare professional if you are feeling any symptoms or have additional questions. While side effects can be frustrating, they were not unusual when first starting TOPAMAX.
