I'm starting a scrapbook project to commemorate my pregnancy. I would like to include the words to the Ancient Mother chant on a page or two. I think I know most of the words, but I want to make sure they're correct.
I particularly fell-in-love with Robert Gass' rendition of the chant, where the background vocals include the names of several Goddesses. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out some of the names that are said. Thanks for your help!
For reference, here is the chant on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQHu20_MhDU

Kallan, thank you for the response but I know there's got to be more Goddesses listed other than that. I'm very familiar with the Witches Chat and I don't think this is it.

Isis Astarte Diana Hecate Demeter Kali Inanna
Ancient Mother, I hear you calling
Ancient Mother, I hear your song
Ancient Mother, I hear your laughter
Ancient Mother, I taste your tears.
Edit: after listening to it, you're right. I've caught Sophia, Gaia and a few others in it. I've run an internet search, but can't find anything like it. They must've created their own for this video.
Perhaps you could email them or send them a message through Youtube to get an answer. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

OK - I cannot give you the long list of Goddesses that is chanted in the background....
But the main chorus that is repeated is :
There is a four line song called "Ancient Mother" which some of you may be familiar with. Here are the words:
Ancient Mother, I hear you calling,
Ancient Mother, I hear your song.
Ancient Mother, I hear your laughter,
Ancient Mother, I taste your tears.
The melody is hauntingly beautiful, and when sung in a chorus it is stunningly powerful. I LOVE IT !!!
Blessed be,

The Goddess names in the name portion of the chant are:
Ishtar, Cerridwen, Hecate, Inanna,
Isis, Artemis, Sophia, Athena
Coatlicue, Aphrodite, Mielikki, Astarte
Gaia, Sarisvati, Kali
Pele, Pasowee, Demeter, Parvarti,
Hera, Akewa, Diana, Nidaba,
Chicomecoat, Shekina, Morgana
Maia, Izanami, Shakti
The Robert Gass version of the main chant is:
Ancient Mother, I hear you calling,
Ancient Mother, I hear your voice
Ancient Mother, I hear you calling
Ancient Mother, I hear your voice
An alternate (and more common) version is as follows:
Ancient Mother I hear you calling
Ancient Mother I hear your song
Ancient Mother I hear your laughter
Ancient Mother I taste your tears
Hope this helps. :-)
