If you don't agree simply agree to disagree. Or is it that certain people just don't care to hear what other people are thinking? Is it that some people prefer for everybody to believe the same way and don't care about anybody else's point of views? Or is it that some people are unsure and insecure towards their own beliefs and don't want to feel more confused or insecure about their beliefs?

I'm not taking any side on this, but I think defensiveness comes into play when people make it personal. i.e. Christians are illogical, Atheists are arrogant, etc. Of course that kind of talk stirs emotions and makes one defensive. That is my opinion as to why, in some cases, we can't just agree to disagree.

I totally agree with what nycguy said.

For some it's about being right. For others it's about feeling the need to make a point and be acknowledged as having a point. That often happens with the person they are disagreeing with never says something like, "You may have a point." For some it's a need to control. Some do it just to get arguements started because they like drama. There are probably an almost infinite number of combinations as well.

Very rarely will anyone get upset at someone expressing their beliefs. However if someone is slandering and provoking others just to get a reaction then I would expect a reaction. It's basic human nature. Jesus instructed us to turn the other cheek and to love our enemies and most of us do. I have a feeling there are trolls on here pretending to be Christians too.

some people get upset because the other people are not simply expressing their beliefs. they are shoving them in your face. they are trying to 'sell' you on the nonsense they believe in. why shouldnt you get upset? if you arent passionate about your beliefs what in the world could you be passionate about? i dont think it has anything to do with anyone being scared. if you are scared that what you believe is wrong, wont you shy away from discussing it? if everyone thought the same way, this world would stop working. but i certainly dont think that people need to try to shove their beliefs in your face. and for god's sake... someone tell the missionaries to stop knocking on people's doors. if i wanna find god, ill knock on his door.

thanks

I not that people get upset by others expressing their beliefs, but pushing their beliefs on others and the accompanying closed mindness that usually comes with someone who will actively express their beliefs.

I think you might be right. Of course I would like for everyone to agree w/ me, but I'm secure enough in what I believe that other peoples' opinions don't bother me. If we must disagree, let us do so peacefully.

when each person has concluded the truth of information for themselves they begin to shut down outside thoughts. Listening to other views becomes an annoyance since they have accumulated all that they desire to have. Thus, one becomes close minded and they are content to remain there until the end of their days

Many express their beliefs in a way that belittles beliefs of others.

You can't just agree to disagree when someones position is put that way.

It's most upsetting when they believe that they are right, and that everyone else is wrong, and they condemn everyone because of their beliefs. They never realize that not everyone believes as they do.

You're right of course. It would be just good manners, but some people feel the need to ridicule.

Happy Easter :-)
