In early Catholicism Good Friday was called "Black Friday" until Christianity realized that Christ dying on the cross was a good thing for us. Without the shedding of His blood we could not get our sins taken away only covered with the blood of animals. Jesus took our sins away. When we accept Jesus as our Savior we are washed in His blood and cleansed from all sin. It was a black friday that day on Calvary when Christ said, "It is finished." However, Passover was at a full moon after the new moon when the sacred year began, but God made the day that His Son died on the Cross black. This may be why it was once called black friday because the Bible said the sky turned black. How anyone knows that it was Friday is beyond me.

Black Friday is the shopping day after Thanksgiving that usually puts retailers "in the black" financially. Good Friday was originally Godes Friday or God's Friday, but like "God be with ye" became "good-bye," the God has been changed to Good. It commemorates the death of Jesus.
