Telling abused women that they deserve it? Telling a person who says she's thinking about suicide to suck it up and deal? What's next? Are you going to tell a rape victim she was asking for it? I haven't even looked for that, because I'm afraid of what I will find. Seriously, what goes through some people's heads on this site??

When my brother,an addict, died [not drugs,a drunk driver.Ironic] I found a piece of paper in his wallet ,on it he wrote "Telling an addict to stop using drugs is like telling a drowning man to swim".I think he felt as you do.If people don't have something productive to say, then keep quiet.

actually i have the perfect answer to this. i am taking ap psychology and what you have witnessed is called rationalization. people exhibit what is called the just- world phenomenom. it means people believe that everyone gets what they deserve. when something horrible happens to people, they will say "o they deserved that because..." they are rationalizing what has happened because they don't want to believe that it could ever happen to them and as a result make the victims to be something they are not, usually the opposite type of person the accuser is.

i think it is entertainment for some people, when you say, are you going to tell a rape victim she was asking for it? what if that question was asked to a honest hard working faithful husband that came home from work one afternoon and found his wife having consentual sex with the guy that was supposed to be remodeling their house, after going through that tramatic experience he may have a distorted image of women, and if somebody is watching the news and hears that a 36 year old female school teacher was found guilty of having sex with one of her 14 year old male students, and maybe a person that is on yahoo answers was the mother or father of that 14 year old boy, well you have to figure that each person's own life experiences may somewhat determine how they think about things.if i was convicted for drunk driving and a mom that lost her only son because of a drunk driver, whether it is wrong or right she may hate my guts

I don't know if these people really feel that way, if they really have such a lack of empathy or if they are able to be so cruel because they don't have to take ownership of their answer. No one really knows who we are on here, just what we tell them. Some people are "braver" (actually cowardly) if they don't have to look the person in the face or have it know who really said such a cruel, ignorant, insensitive thing.

People talk out of ignorance. The problem is that not everyone is out here to help someone else... they just want their two points (that you cant do anything with). Its a shame and should not be tolerated.
