Some people are just lazy and careless. Others may be germaphobes, not wanting to touch the flusher, but then they are very inconsiderate germaphobes, leaving a greater mess for the next person. And last of all the only sort of acceptable explanation, in older buildings sometimes it will take a *looooong* time for the tank to fill! If someone had just flushed before you came in, sometimes there just isn't any water... so you either have to wait or it won't flush. Usually I wait for it, unless there's a long line or I'm in a major hurry. Then sometimes I think it's the plumbing system's fault and not mine, and I'll leave.

Good question. I'll never understand it.
In the guys' room at our library, it STINKS. One of the reasons is that so many dudes don't bother to flush. The smell of stagnating urine and wet crap fills the air. It takes two seconds to pull a little lever! No one likes to step into a smelly bathroom, and it only takes virtually NO effort to flush a toilet. So you actually doing your own self a favor taking the moment. I guess some people are simply lazy, ignorant, and disgusting.

I have often wondered that, too. I think the reason of not wanting to wake up the little kids is a good reason to not flush, though. The other reasons people give are lame.
Why would you leave waste stagnating just to save a few bucks on the water bill? That's silly.

The only time I don't flush my toilet is when it's in the middle of the night. I'm worried if it wakes up the 1 month baby twins. If one cries, the other joins in so she won't be left out. That starts my 18 months baby crying and then the four-year-old walks in the bedroom wondering what the noise is. That then gets me tired out. So, the answer to your question is, I will leave my parked dump if it gives me peace.

Are you asking why people don't? or
Asking for people who don't to give answers? or
Asking for support because the people who don't are careless and lazy?
I find that when I find a stall with an unflushed toilet, I flush it, then move on to one that is clear of someone Else's waste. I can't bear to use the one that had floaters, just not a pleasant thought. I also wipe down the seat first, someone Else's drips make my skin crawl, and how doe's a woman drip on the seat anyways, what are they doing, standing on the seat? Gross, public bathrooms make my skin crawl, but when u gotta go, u gotta go.

If its yellow let it mellow, if its brown, flush it down is the motto I've seen a few times.
This makes sense for a few reasons that I can think of.
If you live in an area of scarce water or if you have to pay a lot for it. Or if it makes a lot of noise you might not want to make at night.

When I first went to a new friends home he opened the door saying ' there is only 1 rule here - if its brown, flush it down, if its yellow let it mellow'.
Nasty.
Didnt see him much after that.

Some do this to "supposedly" save water. The rest don't flush because they're just lazy pigs. WAKE UP PEOPLE!! You know who you are.
