I make sweet and sour meatballs, but you can mix up your favorite hamburger mixture or as follows:
1 lb ground beef hamburger
1 lg egg
3/4cup breadcrumbs
3/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp parsley flakes
1/2 cup water
Mix all the ingredients and form meatballs the size of a walnut or smaller for toothpicks and brown in olive oil on all sides. Set aside in a pot/saucepan. The above recipe can be tripled or multiplied to achieve many more pounds of meatballs.
The sweetness is in the sauce that they are cooked.
In the drippings from the browned meatballs , you can fry a whole chopped Spanish or Texas sweet onion. Add some sliced white button mushrooms, then pour in a large can of tomato spaghetti sauce. Add 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Stir.
Then add 1/4 cup lemon juice to counter the sweet taste of the sugar a little at a time and taste.Should taste sweet and sour. When you hit the taste that pleases you pour the sauce over the meatballs and continue cooking them on a low to medium heat for about one hour until done. This recipe is meatballs in a sweet and sour sauce with mushrooms and onion but the mushrooms and onion are optional. If the taste changes during cooking, small adjustments can be made at the end with more sugar or lemon juice. Salt and pepper can be added to the sauce also. This recipe can be divided into containers and frozen for later reheating.

You can purchase frozen meatballs that are already made in most grocery stores or Trader Joes. If you want your own to make ahead and freeze, here is my recipe:

2 lbs lean ground beef
1/2 medium onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 packages Liptons Herb and Garlic Soup Mix
2 eggs
3/4 cup Italian Bread crumbs
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
2 T Worcestershire sauce

Blend the above together and freeze, or bake in a 350 degree oven with a sweet and savory glaze:

1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 T yellow mustard
3 T brown sugar
1 T red wine vinegar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper

Mix the above and simmer until slightly thickened. Season to taste adding more sugar or vinegar to the mix. When mixture has thickened, spoon over meatballs and bake. Half way thru the baking, brush remaining mixture onto meatballs and continue baking. If there is left over sauce, serve on the side.

Here is what we do for meatballs:

Large package frozen regular meatballs
2 (12 ounce) bottles chile sauce
1 cup grape jelly
1/2 cup water
1 cup sour cream

In a large saucepan, combine chili sauce, grape jelly and water; bring to a simmer. Gently drop the meatballs into the chili sauce mixture and simmer for about 1 hour. Occasionally skim off excess fat, as necessary.
Stir in sour cream just before serving. Remove from heat before sour cream comes to a boil.

You can also put everything in a crock pot/ slow cooker and let simmer for about 2-3 hours and enjoy. When we use the crock pot, we omit the sour cream and they taste just as wonderful. Hope you have fun at the party!

Easiest way? Take your meatballs, add a bottle of sweet and sour sauce, then throw in a can of chunked pineapple & heat it all up for an hour or so. It's quick and tasty & everyone will think you cooked for hours.

this is the recipe my mom always used, sounds a little weird, but SOOO GOOD!

meatballs:
1lb of hamburger
2 eggs
3/4 package of saltine crackers finely crushed

mix these ingredients, roll into balls, and bake at 350 until thuroughly cooked (about 35 minutes depending on size of the meatballs)

sauce:
1 med size jar of grape jelly
1 jar of heinz chili sauce

mix together in slowcooker. add meatballs and cook on low for a few hours. add more jelly if you would like it sweeter.

Sounds odd, but i promise they're great!
