The world has been slowly improving for the past 5 centuries. For example, medical research has doubled our average life expentancy. But even if things get worse again, the old saying is "the more things change, the more they stay the same." We are no more closer to our world ending to day than 1000 years ago, unless an asteroid wipes us out or something.

I don`t know how you want this question answered so I will try this one and hope that it`s what you want, it is not the ending of the world, at least not an ending we will see, the existence of the planet Earth relies on the state of our Sun and that will outlive all life on earth, life will be long gone before our world is engulfed by the sun and ceases to exist, if I were you I would just enjoy the time that you are alive and make as much of it as you can.
Of course if you are asking if human life is coming to an end, then that is a different matter, I think it quite likely that a world war based on religious difference`s could end life on Earth, I do not know of many war`s caused for any other reason than that, probably it will be a Muslim terrorist organization that will set off the first nuclear weapon, which they will do when they have the capabilities to do so, causing the American`s to respond and therefore all life destroyed or dying, ironic when you think of the teaching`s of all religion`s.
If you don`t like this answer, please feel free to write what you would like it to be replaced with, I suppose you could have written that instead of a question if you don`t want the opinion`s of other`s.
Chris.

Here are the History Channel's top eight possible events which could bring about the extinction of humanity (the end of the world as we know it):
8) A gamma burst from a dying star
7) Attraction by a wandering black hole
6) Artificial Intelligence gone berserk (a la "Hal" in "2001")
5) Eruption of a super volcano as in Yellowstone National Park
4) Asteroid strike
3) Nuclear war
2) Pandemic/plague (bird flu as an example)
1) Global warming
God has many options obviously.

According to christianity, your god will come "like a thief in the night" when no one is looking for it. So many people throughout the world are looking for this to be the end of days. But it's not. Too many people are expecting it. I also think that "the end of days" discussed in Revelation was symbolic of what was going on in Rome at the time the bible was written and had absolutely nothing to do with the end of the world. Why would your god tell people what was going to happen at the end and then tell them that he's not going to come if people are looking for him? That makes absolutely no sense.

Yes the "World" is coming to an end.
But it may not be like many think.
The Earth as well as all of the people and animals on it will die off over a long period of time as a result of sickness, disease, flooding, and drought causing starvation all around the globe.
Death will come slowly to all.

Jesus said to watch and see the signs of the times, that it would be like the days of Noah. It certainly is as people are so busy with worldly cares that they don't focus on eternal things. We are in the end times according to biblical prophecy. The rapture could happen at any moment and Jesus will return like a "thief in the night". We know that we are in the endtimes because God said that he would bring Israel back to the promised land. The fact that Israel has miraculously reestablished their nation in 1948 in one day just as it was prophesied is evidence we are in the endtimes.

Sure, the world will end when the Sun goes Red Giant and engulfs the Earth in a few million years.

Nobody knows when the end will be, scripture states that clearly- He will come like a thief in the night.
Don't be fooled into believing, if anybody says they know.
However, very few people also know when they are going to die either- the best advice is to be prepared. Blessed is the person who, when their master comes, finds them working.

Sure, all the sigs Jesus said that will mark the end are already here. There are wars and earthquakes, food shortages and what not, so the end is very near. But you can survive the end if you do more than just asking questions.

Luke 21:9 (NKJV)
But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately."
1 Peter 4:7-10 (NKJV)
But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. [8] And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins." [9] Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. [10] As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Rev. 21:6 (NKJV)
And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.
Know one knows exactly when the end of the world will occur. Do not worry. It is all in God's timing and hands.
The end is coming.
