My particularly favorite breed of dog is the Irish Wolfhound. It is classified as a "giant" breed and can grow to be nearly 3.5 feet tall at the shoulder and weigh as much as 170 pounds. They are very active runners and despite their massive size and seemingly large bodies, they are very agile, graceful and gentle. Hence the nick-name "gentle giants" from their home country of Ireland. In fact, there ARE reported and documented cases where these dogs have refused to harm or even threaten a child even when the child is hurting or just being mean to these dogs. They are extremely protective of children and home. There is even a monument to their strength and protectiveness in Ireland. The story behind it is that a knight left home leaving his only child and the maid home with his dog. Upon returning to his home, he was greeted by the dog covered in blood. after calling for someone to come out and having no answer, he killed the dog fearing the dog killed all inside the home. Upon entering his house, he found the maid dead in the doorway. In the hallway, he found two full grown wolves dead outside of his sons bedroom door. His son lay asleep in his room unharmed. In his grief, he built a memorial to the fortitude of these animals which to this day still stands to attest to their good nature.

I love my shih-tzu..They are very smart, attentive, and playful.
Mine enjoy being groomed. We groom every day. I admit, they take a lot of care. I am retired and have the time it takes to care for them. They don't shed like other dogs. My little one is around 7 lbs. and almost 7 mo. old. He is the joy of my life. I keep him in full coat. He is just the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Now, can you tell I don't have Grandchildren yet?

My favorite would have to be the Golden Retriever. It is a great companion and is also has energy. I was reading on the breed and it got 6/6 on playfulness and niceness. My very close second would have to be a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

I love Labrador Retrievers. I have owned tons of different breeds over the years and loved all the dogs but never fell in love with a breed until I got Labs. I have a yellow and my boyfriend had a black. They are one of the most loving, loyal, affectionate, intelligent, and versatile dogs. We take ours swimming in the summer and camping and hiking. In the winter they go sledding and snowmobling. They are big loving teddy bears.

I have two chihuahuas and a mini poodle..but dalmatians and standard poodles are my favorite breed of dog. I love larger dogs, and these two breeds have the appearance to match.
