In Genesis 3:16, God says to Eve:

"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you."

According to Saint Augustine, this means that God increased the labor pains of all women as a punishment for Eve's disobedience in the Garden of Eden.

But why does God punish other women for something that Eve did?

Why would he punish all of us for what he did? It's nonsense.

He doesn't. God was speaking directly to Eve. Normally, just because of the bodily function required to give birth, it hurts.
What God was telling Eve was that HER childbirth pains would be greater, and the reason they would be greater is because God also told her that He would multiply her conception. He did, by 2, exactly;
she was pregnant with twins. The pain is naturally greater when you give birth to one child and then your labor continues and you deliver a second one. This is what the manuscripts of the Bible say, and it all but cements it in fact.
Nobody ever pays for someone else's sin. You are accountable for only your sin.
If you pay for a sin someone else has committed, it is because you comitted the same sin yourself.

We aren't punished for what Eve did!! Child birth is going to hurt, no matter what! I just answered another question about this same thing. God is explaining to Eve that now that they won't be in the Garden, child birth will hurt, since she has never experienced it before.

I take it you have never watched a baby be born. It isn't easy, and it for sure is painful! You try pushing something the size of a watermelon out something the size of a lemon and see how it feels!

while created, Adam and Eve have been perfect. so as that they made the chosen to sin against God. devil deceived Eve, and while Adam willfully disobedied Jehovah, there replaced into an argument to hand...He for that reason called into question the rightfulnes of Jehovah's way of ruling. Adam and Eve chosen to stick to devil, so as that they likewise rejected Jehovah's sovereignty and, in consequence, asserted that guy can make certain for himself what's physically powerful and what's undesirable. So Jehovah God has allowed time to bypass, giving human beings the prospect to rule themselves as they chosen. The ensuing wickedness is due, partly, to devil's persevered impression and an incredible actuality, that guy is incapable of governing himself without God. interior the Bible, God tells us how we are able to stay away from plenty suffering. He has presented the very superb suggestions on living. while utilized, this fills our lives with which ability, ends up in happy kin existence, brings us into close association with people who incredibly love one yet another, and safeguards us against practices that would deliver plenty pointless actual suffering. If we overlook approximately that help, is it undemanding to blame God for the difficulty that we deliver upon ourselves and others? once you get a guess examine 2 Timothy 3:sixteen, 17, Psalm 37:9-11,29 and Psalm 119:ninety seven-one 0 five.

That is the nature of sin. It never affects just you, but others. Fact is as someone said "no man is an island". Whatever we do in life has adverse or beneficial effects on others.
A woman who is a crackhead gives birth to a baby and that baby suffers the agony of withdrawal.
Another woman who has given birth brings forth a child in a stable healthy God-fearing environment and that child reaps the benefits of its mother's prudence.
That is the nature of things. Hopefully you will consider it and do things God's way, for your sake and the sake of all who know you.
Jesus said "whoever is not with Me is against Me, and whoever does not gather with Me is scattering." (Matthew 12:30)
