I'm 13 and I went to my sister's beauty shop and she washed, cut, & layered my hair, my sister's boss came over to check on how she was doing and she said my hair had a lot of shampoo buildup, and said something about some kind of oil to get rid of it.

What kind of stuff can I use to get rid of shampoo buildup? I don't want to have to go to the store and buy things, I heard I can use baking soda or some other things, what can I use, how often, and how much?

also how do I properly massage my scalp/hair in the shower?

You only get build up from not properly rinsing your hair, so make a point to do that in the shower. If you use an oil it may just clog things up and then where will you be. Get a good clarifying shampoo-Nexxus and Paul Mitchell make good ones. Nexxus you can get at Sally's for cheap. Use this maybe once or twice a month. But make sure to rinse properly and condition. And rinse that out really good.

Use your finger tips in a firm circular motions as you shampoo and condition. You can also do long fluid strokes on too.

Knead your scalp with the tips of your fingers (not the nails)in the shower. Wash your hair changing the brand of shampoo evey few months. That will stop build up :)
