make sure this is what God is calling you to do... and pray about it. Some people fast 'all food' others fast other things.... tv, computer, music, movies, whatever. Fasting is giving up something that is important to you.
if you are going to do food, you must drink plenty of water... and you can include juice in this as well if you want...
Fasting is something to be done in private, not 'advertising' that you are doing it nor boasting about what you have accomplished. God wants this to be between you and him....
If you need prayer thru this I can help in that area. God Bless
here is a site that could help
as far as your 'religion'... it should be because of what God is asking you to do... not a 'requirement' of any certain denomination.. that is just being a minion and not in relationship with God

I don't know how Catholics fast, but Mormons fast once a month. We usually begin after lunch on Saturday and don't eat or drink anything until it's lunch time on Sunday, which is after church. During that fasting time, we try to think and pray and ponder about things that are happening in our lives that we need God's help with, and things that we are grateful for. We also sometimes fast for someone else, like a family member or close friend who is going through a particularly hard time. We begin and end our fasts with prayer. Some people will pray everytime they are hungry. We try to make the time a time to focus on the Lord and what He's done for us, and how we can better serve Him.

Ok,I,m not Catholic but Baptist fasting means not eating and it cleanses the body. Now you usually drink water throughout the day as you pray to the LORD.By fasting and praying you are cleansing your body and soul for GOD,hope this helps you.

Fasting is not just eating while not eating is the most common form of fasting. It basically is abstaining from something when you are looking for an answer from God or to show faith so you should not fast just out of tradition. As stated earlier fasting does not bring you closer to God but if He tells you to fast you should do so.

in Islam you first make intention ( making clear intention in your heart is very very important ) do not eat anything, drink anything, no cigs, no chewing gum, no putting things in your mouth, some say injections break fast, taking medicine breaks a fast. the only time putting water in your mouth is permitted during fast, is when you are washing for prayer. we do this for one month a year. if the only thing you get from fasting is hunger, your fast is a failure. fasting makes the rich equal to the poor. gives us a chance to see what if feels like for over half the world that does not have enough food on a daily basis, increasing our chances of giving to charity, and doing charitable acts. fasting indeed brings you closer to God, the smell on your mouth you get from fasting may appear foul to us, but to God it is sweet. lastly a person fasting has his face 70 years away from hell fire. you should not swear, curse, complain about hunger, or become angry when fasting.

The bare minimum required for most adults is one full meal and two smaller meals. It is good to go beyond the bare minimum, of course. Do what you are able.

We just refrained from eating all meat and dairy products and stopped eating anything during the hours of the passion to sunset, if I remember correctly... which sucked because we women-folk had to prepare all the meats and such for the basket-blessing that happened on Saturday at the church.
Ex-Byzantine Catholic here.
