No, you don't have to have one. If you don't want one then that is your choice. Tell your friend you don't feel comfortable using hers. It's not the ring that makes the engagement it's the people who are in love.

Discuss this with the future fiance. It doesn't really matter if you don't want to get an engagement ring. What matters is if she wants an engagement ring. Showing the engagement and getting oooooo's and aaaaaah's is a big part for many girls - at least for the first marriage.

It was a big thing for me the first time I got married, but the second time - not so much. So, my boyfriend and I discussed it and decided that for the engagement ring, we'd use cubic zirconia. Keep in mind - it was DISCUSSED.

Talk about it with her. Tell her that you are not ready right now to get engaged, but that you want to know for future reference (to keep the element of surprise in). Talk about engagement rings, wedding rings, etc.

Keep in mind too that most engagement rings are a portion of a wedding ring.

If you don't discuss this with her, and you don't have an engagement ring when you ask her to marry you, the result could be disasterous.

There is no law stating you must have an engagement ring. Being engaged simply means that the two people have decided to get married - that's all. Most women expect an "engagement" ring because it's a tradition in their culture - but it is not a requirement for being "engaged".

Hunny, this is YOUR wedding...don't follow any stupid rules or regulations. This day is yours and yours alone. Anything you want/don't want is what it should be. For my wedding, we didn't play the traditional "here comes the bride", instead, we played "Ready to run" by the Dixie Chics, because that was a song that described my husband and I prior to meeting, and it was our last seconds being "single". Point is, it was shocking to a lot of people, but I didn't care, it was MY day and I did what I wanted. I didn't have an engagment ring either, just a wedding ring. You do what makes YOU happy!!!

You don't have to have one, and you can use any ring that you prefer. There are some inexpensive rings, at Zales.com in lots of different styles. Also depending on your style check with a local pawn shop they might have something that is inexpensive but nice. my engagement ring was the diamond that my father gave to my mother when they were to be married, they are no longer married, then I used the wedding band that matched it. We now have our own matching set.

No you do not have to have an engagement ring... Nor if you get married you do not have to have a wedding ring if you do not desire too.

Not really. My fiance and I went to my grandparents for dinner and next thing I knew my grandpa popped open a bottle of bubbly and my grandma and grandpa both toasted us and give some great words of wisdom.

You dont HAVE to have one, but its awfully nice to get one. I wouldnt use your friends, there might be a lot of bad karma with that ring, especially if its from a failed relationship.
If you want one you should get one or better yet your fiance should get you one!

Good luck!

No you don't have to have an engagement ring.

As long as one proposes and the other says yes, then you are engaged.
