My terrestrial receiver wont give me all the channels.?

I have bought a terrestrial receiver its like a freeview box. anyhow it wont give me all the channels, bbc1 bbc2 3 4 5. my inside ariel is a bit battered this mite cause it im not sure though.

You need a good outside aerial to receive Freeview. Unlike analogue signals, which give increasingly poor reception as they weaken, digital signals are either there or not there at all. This is called the "edge of the cliff" effect. Also, while the analogue signal is still being transmitted, Freeview is not at full power. You may need a wide band aerial during the changeover period, as some freeview channels may be being transmitted outside the analogue band during the changeover. Have a look at:

If you live near the transmitter, a top-of-the-range indoor aerial may work. Mine works just about OK (some of the channels have interference from other activity in the house) but some of the channels (CH5, Sky Three, etc) are all on the same frequency and don't work. If you can't put an aerial up on the outside of the house, a loft aerial can be screwed into the loft. I also have a really sensitive freeview box, unlike some, so that also makes a difference.

probable ITV or Channel 4. BBC2 is boring I under no circumstances watch it. I basically watch BBC1 for Eastenders and 5 at times for neighbours.
