Thousands of years at least. The only real danger I see is if we choose to genetically engineer ourselves into something that would not be considered human today.

Probably not very long. Genetic engineering is fast improving and it won't take more then 100 years before they start trying to improve the human race. The society that can produce the most superior beings will dominate the earth replacing humans as we know them today. They will probably evolve at an accelerated rate because of applied science and will eventually think of human as we now think of apes.
