how many americans here think the FCC is evil, pointless, and unamerican?
the whole point of their existance is to limit what can be put on tv and the radio.
they are a direct contradiction to the first amendment!
if you see something that you do not approve of on tv.
CHANGE THE F'N CHANNAL!!!!!

While I'm not American, I do think that the FCC is bunch of useless, anachronistic, pointless tools.
While it might have been necessary to regulate corporate access to radio broadcast equipment back in the 1940s, modern communication technology has bypassed them.
Unfortunately, they continue to cling tightly to their shrinking power base, and their death throes have included a misguided and atavistic attempt at becoming nannies, censoring broadcasts that might have been considered scandalous in 1873.
Sadly, the CRTC in Canada is even worse. Their Cancon regulations and restrictions on narrow-marketed cable channels are positively idiotic.

This isn't even a NON-serious question about God. :S
The FCC exists so little kids don't watch Southparkesque material during the day when their parents aren't around. The first amendment is one thing, but we don't need kids swearing like sailors.
Besides, there are some things we just don't WANT to see on television.

I have thought for years the FCC needs to be disbanded. The organization is a waste of taxpayer $$$$. Same goes for the IRS for that matter. Charge everybody a flat tax of say 10-12% and have no loop holes, then there would be no need for the IRS.

where does God fall into this question? I don't so much mind the FCC. They pretty much only control public stations. It's not about political opinion, it's about obsenity.
If you want to watch or listen to smut, get cable or XM. Don't make the rest of us searching for a radio station have to listen to it or hold our kid's ears.
The ACLU is evil.
