I disagree with saturating your walls in rich colors. When you do that the room becomes very tense and not relaxing at all...especially if it doesn't get much natural light.
With chocolate brown try a color like aqua (a little green/little blue, very retro and beautiful with brown) or a pear green. Because the room doesn't get much natural light you'll have a problem if you go with too much yellow or terra cotta because the color will be skewed by the lack of light and will look dingy. Something that's a cool tone but has a little yellow in it warms the color but keeps true to color because of the presence of the blue.

If you want to lighten the room then lighten it. Here is some colors I think will look best.
I love the idea of an enlightened lime green color. I think I would look perfect. If you go with that color then you can you a cool blue color to help accent the room. This will make the room look larger and give your room a modern touch.
Another color that seems good in this room would be a really soft color of purple. Not so where it looks like a childs room but where it looks like an adult sitting area. To accent the room I would reccomend an off white color.
I hope this helps!

Don't use bold colors. They absorb more light and will make your living room a cave. Use something more like a tinted shade of white, like a really light blue or green or orange or whatever works. You could do a band of chocolate brown around the room around hip-height, but that won't work in all rooms, so be careful if you decide to try that. You could also do an accent wall in a bold color and that will still give the room some flair without making it a cave.

Your furniture is the perfect colors to use a Terracotta on one wall, then on the others use a light but rich buttery color. The one wall will seem to orange with white walls, but the buttery color tones it down. These are nature's colors and this DOES NOT make the room seem smaller, as some darker colors might. You can also choose the depth [i.e. darkness/shade] of terracotta. If you like it darker for a larger room however, it will draw attention to that wall more, so you will want fairly nice art on it. I myself would not go to dark on a Terracotta, it is more of a slight accent color, and not a "knock your eyes out blind" color. If you are wanting a room others will say, "WOW" to ... this is the colors to use though. I had hundreds of people say my living room painted this way was the most unique and beautiful they had seen. I however added some cast iron wall scontches to the terracotta wall, and tons of house plants. My theme was jungle & wicker in black and browns.
It will also make wall hangings and framed art pop out better, if they are in the tones your furniture is. Blacks, Dark browns and burgundies, dark greens, and the forementioned colors with silvers & golds in picture frames etc.

i have dark leather furniture and i would first make a list of colors you love. then decide if you can live with it all time on the wall. remember the larger the area the darker the color will look . Then go to the paint store and pick at least 6 paint color chips . take them home and stick on the room wall that you want to use them in. colors look different depending on the light in the room and the time of day. make sure you like it every time you look at them. then take one away each day till you are down to the one you love. if you want more then one color ,i do ,i use 2. then paint the second in a complimentary color. if you put the paint chips together pick a color in the same shade line as the color you love. put it on the wall you want different and look at it like you did the others. I hope this helps. i didnt name colors because everyone likes different ones. good luck with the painting.

I have dark brown leather furniture and tan carpet in my living room. My walls are painted a tan khaki color and I have one accent wall that is a dark red. All of my pictured and accessories are browns, reds and greens. Very natural colors.

look at natural colors.. If you see something that looks good (a flower or piece of material or something from a magazine) you can take it in to most paint stores and they can match the color with a computer. Good luck

Ice blue, then mix blues and chocolates and tiny bits of chartreuse for accents and accessories.
(a high energy feeling)
...Or blush & cream for a whole different mood of cozy comfort.
