i'm a breastfeeding mom who love fish. i heard that smoked salmon is not good for pregnant or breastfeeding women. is it because of mercury or is it not well cooked?

Depends on where the Salmon came from. If it was in the fish to begin with it is most likely going to be there after it's smoked. So it's probably not good to eat while you are breastfeeding. Look for other fish that wouldn't be as bad, like haddock, catfish, cod or any freshwater fish.

I'm guessing it's because of the Mercury levels in salmon. A normal adult shouldn't have more than three 6-oz. servings of salmon per month because of the Mercury content, so I would advise you to stay away from smoked salmon as much as possible if you're pregnant or breast-feeding.

1. smoking fish does not add or remove any mercury.
2.there can be added carcinogens from the smoking process, but not much worse than burgers cooked on the grill. enjoy it if you like it, but dont eat a ton if it.
3. smoked fish is cooked, the smoking process cures the fish.

I figure that in small quantities it wont hurt you if that's all you do. I say if in doubt ask a doctor Or your mom.
