When you say forced, I'm assuming you mean pamphlets are left without your permission, or Witnesses continue to visit your home despite requests that they not do so.

If this is the case, ask them "once" more, to remove your name from their list, and call their local Kingdom Hall to request the same. Note the time and date.

If they return after that, immediately call the police and explain they above. If someone continues to visit your home, after you've asked them not to for ANY reason, that is harassment.

Dear Caffeine,

I've had that most of my life since my mom is a Watchtower Witness.

When I was younger I threw the pamphlets out and I put the books at the back of my bookshelves to prevent my good books from falling off the back.

Last December I was talking with a couple that came to my door. I told them that I am very familiar with what Watchtower Witnesses believe and I disagree with them on many subjects. I told them that I believe Jesus Christ is God in human form and not the angel Michael which the Watchtower teaches.

The couple told me they had a book which would prove that Jesus is Michael and they wanted me to read it. I had absolutely no desire to read any more of the org.'s publications. They kept insisting so I prayed as we talked and the Holy Spirit told me to accept the book and give the couple a copy of a pamphlet that I had printed out.

It is a wonderful chart and I highly recommend it. One person said after looking at it "I'd say that's a suspiciously high number of qualities that Jehovah and Jesus share. And since Jehovah God will not share His glory with anyone (Isaiah 42:8) it seems odd that the two have the same characteristics through and through.

The book that I was given did not prove that Jesus was the angel Michael. It was not well written and I felt as though it was a waste of my time.

I have a strong suspicion that you are a Watchtower Witness who is trying to be oh so creative in coming up with questions for filling in your time sheet. If I am wrong please forgive me.

Put them with the Rest of my J Dub Collection; I sure wish I had my Collection I had in 1990.... I had a Massive Collection dating back to 1921. Circumstances forced me to sell some books, and my Collection Sold as one Lot. Worth Little Then, About 300 Dollars, going by Todays prices, I would have got closer to 5,000 dollars.... Buying back the ones I had is a hard Exercise. And the Current stuff is on acidic paper so it needs to be preserved. Wow, what memories...

Jehovah's Witnesses consider their literature valuable. It is paid for by voluntary donations not only from Jehovah's Witnesses world wide, but also people of all denominations who appreciate the Bible truths found inside. We offer it at no cost to people who are interested in learning more about what the Bible has to say on numerous subjects. If you are not interested, do not take it.

I'm sorry you felt "forced" to take the literature. It is never our intent to pressure anyone, we are looking for honest hearted people who are searching for answers to questions such as: Why has God permitted suffering? What happens when we die? What will the future bring? Will there be an end to sickness? What is God's purpose for the Earth? Will Cruelty Ever End? And the list goes on. The answers to all of those questions can be found in the Bible, and there are people who want to learn the answers, so, we share the Watchtower with them.
Once again, if you don't want to know the answers, just say, "No, thank you," and we will be on our way.

In what universe does "passing out pamphlets" constitute 'force'? This reminds a fairminded observer of the Shakesperian proverb "The lady doth protest too much."

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Harassing them in ANY way (refusing the pamphlet, arguing, rudeness, etc. tells them they are right. According to their teachings, they will be prosecuted in this way when they are doing the right things.

Benign neglect is harder for them to explain away. Take a pamphlet with a polite thank you and then shove it in your pocket after a quick, polite glance (even tossing it immediately counts as a win to them!)

If they try to debate you or talk to you, being polite, smiling, and gently but firmly refusing to enter into a debate or discussion of any kind works nicely.

Sure, it might be more immediately satisfying to smack them somehow- but again, that counts as a win in their minds. We want them to think that they 'lost', and the best way to do this is to just absorb their effort with no visible effect. Use the image of them punching at a thick foam mattress leaning casually against a way- lots of effort, no visible result.

Thank the giver, sometimes read them, then decide how I feel about what they had to say. I do the same with most things offered to me to read. I stop reading if I see something that I CANNOT agree with, but it is in the expression of ideas that truth is found. I must consider them all if I am to find real truth.

What do you mean 'forced' on you ! You are joking . Nobody can force that on you . Just turn on your heel and walk away. You are in charge , so quit being a wimp and get some backbone in there. I bet you are that way in other things too which need improvement . I am sorry to be so blunt but that drives me nuts when they come to my door and practically push into my house . Also they bring their kids along , as if that would stop people . I don't stuff my religion down their throat, so leave me alone I say .
OK, here goes one more time : do not let them push the pamphlets if you don't want them and turn away and let them stand there .
Got it ?

Politely take it, thank the person, walk away and wait until I am out of sight before tossing it. If I'm at home, I politely take it, thank them, excuse myself and close the door. Count to ten and toss it.

I flash my Pentagram at them and tell them the voices won't let me associate with them. Either that or I answer the door in full robes with my black cat in one arm and my dagger in the other and ask if they're here for the sacrifice of the reighteous.

Works every time.

I'm really not evil, by the way. Just facetious.
