"I think there is a connection. I think that people who like to be neat also respect order, law and authority. Religion provides those. Those things don't mix with slobbery very well."
Hahahaha That's funny because I am a Christian and a huge slob. You should see my car, there isn't room for anybody to sit. I have to force myself to clean the house once a week because there are clothes everywhere (and usually I end up cleaning like once a month)
Not that I think this is a good thing, I admit that we should take care of our possessions and take pride in what we own. Heh but by nature I am a total slob.
I also have a huge problem with authority. Espeically cops. But because of my faith, I have decided to respect earthly authority... because God wants me to, not because I inherently do.
But I don't know - on average you're probably right because Atheists who are by nature sloppy will have no outside force of improvement working on them like the Christian who is sloppy by nature. Heh So while the Christians are getting neater and improving day by day, the Atheists are remaining the same. - Just a thought!

I'm Pagan, respect order and authority... but am still a bit messy. Not a total slob - I don't have empty pizz boxes strewn on my floor or anything - but I'm certainly not a neat-freak.

I am agnostic and I am a very organized person. I like things orderly, structured, and overall neat. I like knowing what will happen and when it will happen, and I hate change.
I do not believe in God and do not practice any organized religion.
Connection?
No. Each person is different. Your organizational habits, i.e. messiness, is determined by your upbringing.
It's a good theory, and who knows, maybe I'm just an exception. :o) Keep thinking and keep formulating ideas. We, humans in general, need to strive to achieve our full mental potential.
Good luck.

With one of each in the household (actually, I'm a Deist, but for the sake of argument...) it's a bit hard to tell exactly who is responsible for the last handful of faeces thrown.

My husband is a Pagan, and he is a clean freak, Monk style.
I am a disorganized, messy atheist.

I am moderately messy. My wife is very neat and organized. It is a toss up as far as I can tell.

I disagree.
In general theists are more messy...
Most atheists know there's no magic sky-guy who's going to clean up their messes for them, like many theists believe :)
Peace.
