Have you ever been around a really miserable person who only speaks negative? How long did it take for you to start seeing the negative right along with them. If you know a person who is miserable watch other who are around them for any length of time, the misery in the one soon will be joined by others. So I guess the saying is in a way true.

Misery loves empathy and needs to know that someone else has been there and cares about what they are going through.

Yes, because when most people are down they love to complain. You can't complain to yourself you need to complain to someone else... so yes they love company!!

Now if you are on the other end... and you always have someone complaining to you, you will usually complain back or start avoiding their calls because you can't take the negative all the time!

Most definitely. Talk to anyone about your bad problems and if they start to join in and be negative right along with you, then you have your answer. Anyone in a bad mood, will look for others in a bad mood.

Yes and I don't understand why...
My ex was like this...we broke up and he would say thing to make me feel worse.
Just because I'm not thinking about it all the time doesn't mean I'm not hurting...
He would say things about me to bring me down...but if you love someone ....why would you do that?
It didn't make sense to me...
