You might be a candidate for LASIK surgery. LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. It's a procedure that permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye, using an excimer laser. A knife, called a microkeratome, is used to cut a flap in the cornea. A hinge is left at one end of this flap. The flap is folded back revealing the stroma, the middlesection of the cornea. Pulses from a computer-controlled laser vaporize a portion of the stroma and the flap is replaced. There's lots of information about it at http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/lasik/. Our son had LASIK surgery and no longer needs his glasses. He's very pleased with the results.

You COULD get LASIK (leaves the flap of skin to heal) or LASEK (completely removes the flap). However, most good optometrists will not advise you to have the procedure yet. They typically will not perform the surgery until you're 25 years old. This is because at your age, you're still growing and developing, so your eyesight may get better or worse. It's best to wait until the growing has slowed so that the procedure will last longer.

Yes, laser surgery can correct your vision so that you can be free of glasses, but it is expensive and you may again grow and thus the shape of the eye may change furthr. Discuss with your doctor the advisability of going for a surgery. An alternative from cosmetic point of view is to wear contact lenses.
