look at it this way. oatmeal provides you with fiber and nutrients without being high in calories. you keep those two things no matter what. however, butter will negate the low calorie aspect. if you're willing to make changes in the rest of your day (exercise or not eating a fattening snack) to compensate for the butter and maintain the same daily calorie intake, then a little butter or cream won't hurt you.

Well, if you are trying to diet to lose weight, all those small things count. Little drops make a big ocean. If you would like to eat more fat and protein, try Atkins or Southbeach or similar low carb diets.
Once in a while, you should treat yourself. So, go ahead and have that cream.

it will certainly not void the benefits. not at all. a little (very little) butter is not going to hurt you. You can also get the spray butter and artificial creamers and such, but like I said, used very sparingly it will be fine
