I am having a problem with a document that everytime I open it and start typing Word closes. I have tried saving as, copy pasting, nothing is working. I have had this problem with one other document and all other words docs are fine. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to why this one document keeps closing down??? Thanks!

Two suggestions:

1. open the document that is giving you trouble
click the show/hide button (to the left of the % button on the toolbar) - this will show you non-printable characters. See if anything is in the way.

2. if that doesn't help, go for a "Word detect and repair."
Get out the Word CD in case you need it
open the troublesome document
click Help
click Detect and Repair

No error message?

I would say your document is corrupt. Word 2003 (and presumably Word 2007) has an "open and repair" option. When you use "file, open" the dialog box has a drop down arrow next to the open button and there you will see this option (once you have the file selected, or highlighted). It will try to repair the document.

Word 2000 has a feature that lets you extract the text. Do "file, open" and on the dialog box, for "files of type" change the setting to "recover text from any file (*.*)" and select your document. It will try to extract just the text. It may also show some other text/characters.
