I have a female pom that was rescued from a puppy mill! She lived in a 2' x 2' crate for the first 10 months of her life. When I got her, I had to have her vocal chords checked, because she was so traumatized that she would not even bark. Once she gained our trust ... weeks later, she did begin to bark. She had a litter of puppies before she was even a year old. She was NEVER let out of the crate to even go to the bathroom. The first time her nails were clipped, they had to do it when she was under anesthesia while being spayed, because her nails were so long, there were greater chances of them bleeding. Her crate was even hosed out with her still inside of it!! These are only a FEW of the problems she went through. There were over 80 other dogs on the property being treated the same way. I don't understand why anyone would buy a pet from a place like that unless they were going the full mile to have them shut down!! Unless you are looking for a place like this to shut them down, PLEASE do not support them. There are so many wonderful pets out there that need to be rescued from people and shelters that are trying to help these animals by doing the right thing. My "baby girl" is 3 years old now and she is a very happy baby. I just hope and pray that she was young enough to forget the abuse and cruelty that she went through.

I did NOT buy from the mill. I knew an older woman that had been chatting with another pom lover for years via phone and mail. She had the dog shipped to her after seeing photos of what she thought was the dog she was getting; however, she could not get any kind of health papers including shot records. There was no way I could let that little dog go back there, so, I took her and tried like hell to get the place shut down. My vets and I were not successful with getting them shut down; because they are in a neighboring state; however, they are monitored a lot more by their Humane Society; but, who knows how long that will go on?

in the past, I have used Frontier and had a good experience...but that was quite a while ago. I have heard great things about Delta as well. I do reccommend getting a direct flight, and I prefered a very early morning flight out when the weather is at it's coolest during this season. I had my first dog shipped to me without meeting the breeder in person. But, like you, I had the breeder checked out well, checked the breeder out with the national breed club and got a contract with a quarantee. The breeder also gave me 30 days to return the puppy if I was not happy.... I was very happy with my girl. She was a group placing purebred, a wonderful Mama to her puppies and a loving member of my family.... Good luck to you.

Why wouldn't you just adopt a dog from a local shelter?

Hundreds of thousands of dogs suffer in puppy mills in this country. The dogs are prisoners of greed. They are locked in small cages. They freeze in the winter and swelter in the summer. The dogs never get out of their prisons. They are bred over and over again until they die. The only way to free them from the misery of these horrid puppymills is to eliminate the demand for puppies by refusing to buy a puppy in a pet store and boycotting those pet stores that sell puppies. When people stop buying puppies in pet stores, the puppy mills will go out of business and the misery will end. The state and federal governments do not enforce the laws to protect the dogs. The commercial breeders and brokers have huge well-funded lobbying efforts. Please join this fight to free the prisoners of greed. The only person who is going to make a difference for the dogs suffering in puppy mills is you. You, the people, can free them from their puppy mill prisons.

No, but even if I did, I wouldn't understand why anyone would want to purchase from them. They probably wouldn't be reputable in the least bit. I've never heard any good results from people who bought puppies and had them ship to them without meeting them first. They've always gotten real sick (sometimes fatally sick) pups.

Stick to local rescues & shelters. You'll be able to meet the dog first, make sure you aren't getting an ill one, and know more about the dog.

I would be cautious using a "puppy farm" We actually had two Austrailian shephard puppies from a farm, they died 2 days later. The vet at Purdue University said they didnt give them shots and they had parvo. It was heart breaking. just a tip. find someone who is reputable in your area.

There are lots of reputable kennels around the world and most of those are listed with organizations for the breed.
You didn't mention what breed of dog you are looking for. German kennels have some outstanding quality GSD's.
My cousin used to raise GSD's and she showed them too.
Her's were largely imports from Germany.
