Dale Earnhardt was thought of the same way for most, if not all, of his career. And he, too, made MANY contributions to various charitable and wildlife organizations. His Legacy Foundation still works to support hundreds of charities. His "bad boy" image is what drew him thousands of fans.

Tony Stewart is one of my three favorite drivers, second only to Dale Earnhardt Jr. I'd have to say that he got his "bad boy" image because of his run ins with the press, his on track and post race behavior from the past few seasons, and his aggressive driving style. Personally, that are a few of the reasons that I like him. I believe that is what draws him a lot of his fan support. He, like Dale Jr., filled a void after Dale Earnhardts death in 2001.

And, yes, Tony Stewart does give back. He is a large donor to the Victory Junction camp and many other charitable organizations. He is not only a terrific driver, but a terrific person as well.

Because some people cannot let go of the past. When Tony was first starting off in Nascar he came across as a jackazz that many people didn't like. The thing with Tony is that he is not afraid to speak his mind, he has a major drive for winning and he will win a race at all cost sometimes. And this has brushed some people the wrong way.

Truthfully...Tony is a big ol' teddy bear. He is a really sweet, nice genuine guy who loves to help others. The way he is on the track does not reflect the true Anthony Wayne Stewart.

Charity has nothing to do with the way he races in the track. Tony is a great guy, and he is also a hell of a race car driver. Many race car drivers do charity and they still race the same in the track.

They're all just jealous. Tony is not a whiner, so he's a bad boy because he doesn't get on tv like Jimmy and Jeff and whine about it, he takes action. LIKE IT OR NOT PEOPLE, TONY STEWART AND DALE JR. ARE THE FACES OF NASCAR!!! And, as far as every driver gives....what does Robby (Crash outta control) Gordon do for charity? The difference between Tony and Jimmy is....Tony is not just in the charity stuff for a write off like Jimmy is...sorry, it's the truth. Go Smoke!!!

Because jealous vermin, like yabaho, like to make up crap. The truth about Tony is that he is an intense competitor who expects the best from himself and the people around him.It is very frustrating to see all your teams hard work go down the drain because of some fools incompetence. He's matured a lot as evidenced at Daytona. He could have blown up and had a public freak out after being wrecked while leading the most important race of the year.Instead he controlled his emotions and brushed it off as a "racing thing".Well done Tony, more proof of what a true champion is made of.

Look "Smoke" got that rap along time ago. Tony is a very talented and well respected racer. His best friend, Junior, gets crap too. However, it is a just a name that got handed to him a while ago when he use to flare his temper in the sport on a regular basis.

Doesn't take away from how talented and giving he is.

Tony got a bad rep very early on because of his quick and hot temper. I think he has come a very long way since then. But, w/ anyone it is hard to shake a bad reputation.

He is a good driver and I enjoy watching him. Hopefully, he will start getting some credit for good things.

Because the Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon fans prefer the girly prissy drivers and can't stand a man that has the guts to stick up for himself. He says it how he sees it. I prefer that to the crap that comes out of the crying hendrick boys.

He's talented and wins races....it's jealousy.

Sr. raced the same way and had the same rep and is also one of everyones favorites....Tony will be a legend too. If you got to a race now...everyone with taste and class is wearing orange and red. Stewart and Jr. our the favorites.

Because that is the picture the media painted for Smoke. He has a drive to win and winning is what he does best.
With his charity events, it helps balance the bad boy portfolio the media decided to put on him.

Dennis Rodman. before him ( xcept for Joe Montana ), a sports badboy wasnt even talked about. Bad boys are controversial, and tony stewarts black and orange jumpsuit are not as controversial as rodmans black and red hair and wedding dress. Rodman does whatever the **** he wants.
