I do give once a month but is it really the test?
I think the test is not what you give as materialistic things go but what you do to truly further His kingdom.
Too many people are altruistic. You can't help people by giving.
When the lame asked for change near the healing pool, Peter said "coin I have none to give you but by the Holy Spirit your sins are forgiven."
Our test will be in doing his will and yes doing "good things" but the one way to truly help someone is to help them see Truth.

In todays society, were all 2 steps away from a recession. Most can barely afford to buy shoes for their own kids, let alone a healthy meal. Most people in the USA are low income families, where worrying about their mortgage and wether or not they will be evicted is on their minds. While juggling a 50 hour a week job, children, and being able to keep there homes.
So yes, you bring up an excellent point.. true.
However, I think God will forgive me, seeing how God helps those who help themselves. Not to be selfish, or an a--.. but seriously, in todays day and age it's hard just to afford to live yourself, it's just the reality.

I don't know about any Angels that are supposed to come down to check on us. Maybe help us.
I give from the heart, not from seeing a commercial. I make sure what I give gets to where it needs to go without much expense. The bulk goes to the charity.
Instead of a hard sale pitch with money amounts attached. It would be nice to see someone ask you to give from your heart. If the spirit of Christ is within you, you will give generously.
Donate to St. Judes!

What if, like everyone else on the planet, they're just children, suffering the results of their parents' and cultures' choices? How many of them should I give money to? Should I give until I cannot meet my own obligations? Would it be honorable to God to ignore the fact that I have financial responsibilities and give all I have to these charitable foundations? I could. But then I would become one of them, and who would provide for me? This is not a selfish notion. But these people, in many cases, rely on charitable agencies to provide for them without making any real effort to improve their situation. Yes, they eat up everything they get, the food, the education, and medicine, and more power to them. But they stay on land that is not fertile and struggling to produce a crop so that they can eventually sustain themselves. Yes, we should be charitable, certainly. But part of charity is seeking to produce self-sufficiency. Is God going to smite me if I don't give my money to them? No, I doubt it. Is He testing me by showing me commercials about them? No, I doubt it. And consider this: of charitable organizations in the world, only Christian Children's Fund has as high an output (percentage-wise) of funds to the actual people they profess to be taking care of. Most other charities only give about 60% (often less) of their income to the actual people. CCF has been proven to give 80% to actual support of the people. So just who am I feeding by giving to some of these so-called charities?

First of all, only about $0.05 of your dollar ever reaches those kids, most of it goes right into the pockets of the foundation. Second if you really want to help there are ways to do it without going through a third party. I run a program for homeless children, and trust me they benefit more from people donating their time to show them that they are cared about then they ever would from 5 cents on the dollar.

I do sponsor a child, so I guess I pass that particular test. Seriously, though, we can all do more. If you read through the bible, God says over and over through the prophets how angry it makes him when the poor suffer and receive no help from the people who claim to follow him.

I don't turn the channel, but I only send money to organizations I know personally (I have made it a point to know some - this isn't a cop out). So while those commercials affect me, they encourage me to give, but not to that particular organization.

personally, i think he is trying to lower corruption in the world, no matter what you believe, you have a soul, and it makes you want to help people. have you noticed how many peopled traveled and made schools and sent food to the people in haiti? how many people donated to japan? its how freewill works. its to make people more aware of the world around them, to make them learn to give. it also makes you realize how good you probably have it, and appreciative(not necessarily to God) i think everything happens for a reason, like a butterfly effect. this is also the God who made people create soup kitchens and foundations. i think God supports science, and wants us to live our lives knowing somethings being done about bad things. i dont think atheists see the world as fully, look at all the beauty! i dont think its possible to believe that the world is such a coincidence(im not talking about the big bang theory). let me set this straight though, i dont think cancer or starvation are good, im just saying that in the worst of times, the people who see the bright side can change a life. i also think you should bring in to the picture, the devil, who causes the corruption and probably most bad things that happen to us
