I'm not sure they believe that having sex AFTER marriage is OK either.
Unless it's between a priest and his altar boys.

Wait a minute! Are you really Roman Catholic, or do you just label yourself as that? Are you saying that if you get answers from others saying that it is ok to have sex before marriage if your Roman Catholic, then you will? For one, its not about what "Roman Catholics" believe. Think about it! God gave us sex to be inside of marriage. It isn't something that should be shared with anyone but your husband. Roman Catholics often follow just the rules of the "religion" but i don't think that makes them Roman Catholic... it just makes them robots, and that goes for anyone in any religion. You must truly believe what your religion teaches. Just following the rules doesn't do anything.

I don't know him, so I can't judge him. But based on what you say, he isn't in line at all with what the Church believes. No premarital sex. Period. No exceptions. Otherwise, you're sinning, big-time. Also, no, most Catholics who know and follow their beliefs do not do that. There are many Catholics though who just want to be "a part of the group", but when it comes to actually practicing their faith, they suddenly aren't as Catholic as they'll make it seem. No.
Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years that it is God's will that:
+ Single people should be celibate.
+ Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."
Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.
The purpose of sex is to bring a husband and wife closer and to create human life.
Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person and anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.
Fornication, sex between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, is contrary to their human dignity and the dignity of human sexuality.
With love in Christ.

Unfortunately sex is viewed as being just for the purpose of procreation, so abstainence is recommended for anyone unmarried. That includes gay people... it's okay to be gay as long as you don't have sex and pray a little extra. Contraception is viewed as a sin, even if a person's life is at threat, eg husband with HIV positive wife, woman who has been told preganancy will kill her.
This is part of why I left the church.

Sex before marriage is irresponsible and foolish. Purpose of Sex is new life. How can life make sense, when sex ceases to have any meaning?
