Are we like Ceasar who fiddled while Rome burned? Has our vision narrowed to the insides of our pocketbook?

We are all powerful and we worry about political correctness. We should be like more like Caesar and less like NERO whom you actually meant to refer to. We should tell other countries what behavior we demand from them, and then if they don't behave we destroy a major city. Caesar would have even salted the earth of their city so that nothing could live there again. Radiation would do the same thing...

As long as Bush is in office we are bullies. After January 20, 2009 we will begin more diplomacy.

By the way, it was Emperor Nero that fiddled while Rome burned.

Since moving back to the midwest I do not believe the typical person living on any street is leading by example. I live in a rent subsidized location and the people who live around me are very inconsiderate. Ther children are rude and destructive and I do not see the parents teaching them a damn thing. The way I see things there are three types of people: ones who actually care, those raised to believe they can do whatever the hell they want to, and those too afraid to stand up for themselves for fear of being harmed.

We bully. Even when we play nice they call us the bully, so we might as well have a little fun with the role.

BTW, It was Nero that fiddled while Rome burned.

We do not lead by example.
We give lip service to the principles of democracy and refuse to seriously address issues of race and discrimination in this country; therefore, as hypocrites, our representatives interfere in the internal workings in other nations to force issues when the same issues have plagued this country for hundreds of years.
We need to get serious at home before we can convince others that we are a "helping nation."

Democracy is not something that you should have to fight people to accept.
If we had a working democracy and everything was working well then people would want it and fight to get it.
We don't have a democracy anymore. The DECIDER and his "loyal bushies" have seen to that. They are just creating havoc and waste at every opportunity as diversions for the Human Rights violations and mass murders they did on 9/11/01.

Yes, and No. We can be bullies at times, but we can also be the ones with the hand out. Yes, we are usually the first to rush in and stomp someone, but we are also the first ones with disaster relief after natural disasters or famine strikes. So, devil or angels? Neither, just human, with human weakness and heart.

The US must not use its superpower status to invade other countries and exploit its natural resources just like the oil of Iraq at the same time inciting the Shiites and Sunnis to fight each other.

I love this country to death (born and raised) But I think that our Gov't is a tad bit arrogant. We need to be concerned about our own affairs in this country and keep our noses out of other people's business unless it directly affects us. If other countries chose to live in an anti-democratic fashion, then so be it.
