Other than for reproduction purposes....I dont understand the obsession with it - its nothing that special. And before someone says something like 'cuz it feels good' - lots of things feel good, eating 5 pieces of chocolate cake would feel amazing but that doesnt mean we all gorge ourselves on it and its the only thing we think about......

AMEN! Honestly, I never really did get much out of the whole experience and would be totally content to live the rest of my life celibate. I'd much rather have Chinese food!!

A lot of it has to do with maturity and attitude. As a person gets older, sex becomes more of a relationship enhancer than a number one priority. It is a way to express your passion for another individual instead of just a way to relieve a physical need. I clown around on YA for fun, but don't see a physical need as much now as I did when I was in my twenties. Everyone enjoys it(at least most) but with age comes a more serious need and that amounts to the need for close companionship. If intimacy develops because of that then all the better. It all depends on how fast you mature.

This sounds harsh, but if sex isn't anything special to you, then you've never had a great orgasm before.
And yes, chocolate cake is sometimes the only thing that some people think about, sex is sometimes the only thing that some people think about. And it is an obsession when you think about anything all day. No, we don't all gorge ourselves on cake or sex. But some of us do.
I don't see anything particularly unhealthy about having sex for pleasure as long as you're taking precautions. Eating cake all day makes you fat.

Testosterone dictates the drive. Normal levels of it = normal desire. Higher levels = increased desire.
Incidentally, eating 5 pieces of chocolate cake feels 'amazing' because of it's affect on endorphins, serotonin, phenylethylamine and many other neurotransmitters.
Soooo...both are important because our bodies like the feeling(s) and are genetically programmed to want more.

Because it's the love between two people physically.
In healthy strong SERIOUS LASTING relationships, it is natural to want to be physically connected wiht your partner. However, I am right with you confused why it is such a big deal. Without love, sex is just sleazy.
And chocolate cake is yummy.

If you don't think it's special, then you are not doing it right or don't have the right partner.
No 5 pieces of chocolate cake would not feel amazing, and for you to think it compares with sex means you don't know about good sex (let alone great sex).

Millions of years of evolution has weeded out the humans that didn't obsess over sex. The most promiscuous of the lot have been the ones that produced the most offspring and seeded the world with their own.

hi i think you are right in asking such a question espacially that all teenagers are obcessed in it but u know that sex is like excersising coz first u make all ur organs work in a healthy way . i wanna tell you something that if sex is not important god wouldnt put it in us that means it help us & throught sex u can take away the work or study pressur & u can by sex renew the relationship between you & your lover .

5 pieces of chocolate cake doesn't sound too pleasing..and it doesn't feel better than sex...possibly you haven't had it with the right person..somebody who really put it on you :) But I do understand what you are saying..I always thought about that too, honestly there is no real answer.

That is a good question. I know people who do it for the wrong reasons and I'm like WTF? I understand if people do it to be close to someone they love, but other than that and reproduction its nothing special.
Why would people just go out and have one night stands, and just do it with random people?
