But, by and large electricity is not the problem. The generation of electricity is a major pollution problem. Coal fired power plants cause acid rain, and the US dumps 2.5 billion tons of CO2 into the air each year.

Probably only that it needs to be produced usually with hydrocarbon fuels. Otherwise, it makes life much better.
