First) Love isn't JUST for Christians. It is for ANYONE!
Second) Christians love everyone as their friend, but there are almost no real Christians anymore.
Third) Do you think you are actually going to get a good answer to this?

There are two kinds of love---human love, which is actually lust, and Godly love, which is spiritual love. Human love is conditional because it is ruled by the flesh. Because we live in a material body in a material world the pull of the flesh is very, very strong. It takes a great deal to overcome the lusts of the flash and replace them with the gifts of the Spirit. God's love is unconditional, which makes it very difficult for humans to embrace God's love and imitate it. The reason for this is that we have become conditioned to placing conditions upon everything that we give and receive. It is truly a mighty feat to overcome this conditional attitude, but many people are able to do so. It takes a servant's attitude, a willingness to humble yourself to the point where you see only others and never yourself. This requires great discipline and practice. You are on the right track when you talk about loving and serving the sick, the disabled and the poor, for this was the trust of our Lord's earthly ministry. Jesus was known more for what he did, rather than what he taught.

What makes you think we're supposed to love everybody unconditionally? Should we love Charles Manson as much as we love our sweet grandma? Did God love the Caananites? Did Jesus love most of the Pharisees? Love is defined in the bible as the keeping of Gods' commandments. And those commandments require such things as justice, and making a determination between good and evil. It is impossible to love "everyone". How could you love a murderer and his victims? If you show love to the murderer, you are inflicting hate on the innoccents. Alos, when it comes to personal love- like between a man and a woman, that is a totally different thing (there are actually quite a few different words in the Bible translated as "love"- all having different shades of meaning)- that love between a man and a woman is something entirely different, as a man and a woman become "one flesh" when they take the vow of marriage and consumate it- and that is a special relationship granted to a man and his wife.
The idea of universally holding all people in the same regard, without reference to their actions is communism- not Christianity.

As the Bible tells us, there are different types of love. The love you feel for a spouse is different than the love you have for mankind. But you are right we are to love everyone. In our church we have lots of community outreach programs including ones for the homeless, AIDS sufferers, mentally and physically challenged, and sick. As Christians our main goal is not to sit down and pass judgment on others it is to be "Christ-like" and Jesus helped those most in need.

There are different kinds of love...spousal love is between a man and a woman. Not for everyone to share with everyone else.
The love of God is not for everyone but for God alone. From loving God we are able to love our neighbors..the homeless, the mentally disabled, etc. because we can see God in them and God loves them through us.
As human beings we do not have the ability on our own to love one another...truly and sacrificially. We need Christ to do this in us.
But from what I've seen there are many, many people out there involved in helping others.

True...
This is my daily struggle. Its so hard to love others. But you know what? its all a struggle.
And my struggle produces perseverance, perseverance, character, and character, hope. And hope in Christ never fails.
Most people believe that we could accomplish a lot. Christians can't do anything apart from the Holy Spirit.
We are commanded to simply finish the race. And finish it as strong as we can.
We are all failures. Everyone of us. We Christians are simply saved. Knowing that gives us the humbleness to go to God and pray more and more passionately.
God searches the heart, not the wealth or accomplishments. He will know as well as you do and he will be as satisfied as you are of your efforts.

Different kinds of love. Love your spouse is different from love your kids, which is different from love your parents, which is different from love your neighbor, which is different from love your Lord. Do you feel the same kind of love for your neighbor as you do your wife and kids? Or is it different? Love is love, but the level and how you feel is different.
And before you go off and say that we Christians don't bother or love our neighbors with Down Syndrome, or AIDs or anything like that, I'll have you know we do. I love my cousin with Down Syndrome. Just because I don't love him the same way I'd love my husband doesn't make it any less of a love.

There is a book by C. S. Lewis that you should read. It is called "The 4 faces of love."
There are four forms of love Phili love is the brotherly love.(Philadelphia-city of brotherly love comes from this) Eros love is erotic love Storge Love and Agape which is the Love that Jesus calls us to 8Let love be your only debt! If you love others, you have done all that the Law demands. 9In the Law there are many commands, such as, "Be faithful in marriage. Do not murder. Do not steal. Do not want what belongs to others." But all of these are summed up in the command that says, "Love others as much as you love yourself." 10No one who loves others will harm them. So love is all that the Law demands

When you join with another person you become one spiritually. All we can do about all the others in the world that need love is pray for them and ask God so soften the hard hearts and to be sensitive to the Spirit and God will put you where you are needed and he will make up the lack

There are a lot of Christians that do help and care for others, that have ministries that you haven't heard about and that aren't on T.V.. Perhaps you are judging too quickly without researching your question. Maybe you need to take the log out of your eye before trying to help others get the splinter out of their eyes. Do you have that love that you are speaking of?
