I want to know your opinions of using an energy tax to help stop global warming. What I mean is taxing gas and electricity, and to prevent taxes from increasing over all, get rid of the income tax.

I guess what you're referring to is 'green tax switching' - lower some taxes whilst increasing others. The idea being that the tax cuts and tax increases are the same. Those that are environmentally conscious will make the biggest savings and those that aren't will be the biggest losers.

The UK has just imposed new rules on car taxation - the fuel efficient ones pay less tax whereas the thirsty ones pay more.

I think it's a good idea provided that governments are open with their policies, implement them after careful consideration and consultation and don't just use this as a way to increase tax overall.
