The best stress buster built by God is pursuing a goal of life dear to our heart. Most human beings in life desire something else and circumstances force them to do something else. I have seen many cases when one wanted to become an artist but the family forced him doing engineering. The incumbent ultimately failed in life when one grew up.
When we pursue a career dear to our heart... the cause for any stress does not germinate. While charting a spiritual career in my life... there were moments when I continued working continuously non stop for 72 hours at a stretch... unmindful of when I had my breakfast, lunch or dinner! That is what life is all about.
If we minutely observe a scientist or an artist at work dear to ones heart... we observe that the incumbent unmindful of happenings in the outside world... got so engrossed in his work that the workplace becomes a place for enjoyment. In the circumstances, Can stresses ever disturb such a one?
Every human being must always try to chart a career in life that is dear to ones heart. In doing so... One might face stiff resistance from family members and friends... yet, the end result would be absolutely satisfying. In whatever profession or stage of life one may be... always remember, we were never born slaves of our destiny.
The moment one takes control of karma... taking control of destiny is not afar! Human being is the highest manifestation in the cosmic life cycle... yet; most human beings suffer from disorders and stresses these days. Practicing absolute high level of integrity, patience and persistence... one ultimately reaches the goal of life. Why fear the unknown!
The sweet small inner voice of our soul atman coming from within our heart is our best guide in the journey of life... Only if we can hear it! By charting a truthful course of life... one can master the art of hearing the dictates of the soul atman within. In doing so... the level of pleasure and happiness one experiences is beyond measure. Stresses can never bog down such a one! More on destiny - http://www.godrealized.org/are_you_a_slave_of_your_destiny.html

Meds are a bad idea. Its bad to depend on drugs of any kind for anything.
Mediation is OK but you need to know how to do it.
A hobby might do it. Sports too.
A pet would be a great way. Cats help some but with a dog you come home to something that thinks you are the greatest person in the world. Pretty cool
If you can get to sleep, that might work but if you are really overworked you may dream you are working and if that happens you need to take a break you are working too hard.
Frankly I would masturbate before bed Best stress buster there is

Well some of it probably depends on what is causing the stress and you aren't saying what that is.
You suggest "meditation"...I would say first that my personal relationship with God helps me in every situation because He tells us to give our problems to Him.....
Sports or exercise is always good for stress...so you should have some in your life....it relieves stress and makes you healthier mentally and physically.
Everyone needs a certain amount of sleep....not medicated sleep, but natural sleep and some need more than others...but it is important.
And stay away from anti-stress medications....you get dependent on them and then you really will have stress...so don't do it.
And consider what is causing the stress....too many hours working....too many hours studying.....relationship problems....what? Then try to improve the situation....take planned breaks....limit the hours at a time....change it....
Your mental health is important, and stress can actually cause heart attacks, etc. Music, and soothing relaxing times also help.

Yep, lack of sleep intensifies stress big time. If you're not getting a lot of sleep and are really stressed, sleep is your key.
If you're stressed by work that involves sitting at a desk, writing papers, doing research, or otherwise being confined to indoor spaces and immobility, exercise is enormous. We're all animals that were built to be active, work and live outdoors, and exert ourselves physically to reach our goals. Society has changed though, and stress can result from all of our duties involving no physical exertion whatsoever.
Medicines are not recommended unless your stress is so abnormal and excessive that it's markedly inhibiting your daily functioning and you've tried other normal/natural techniques and to no avail.
Meditation may help a lot, but it's a skill to really know how to do it. I don't know how to do it, so I couldn't tell you how effective it is.

Well, that is what they are supposedly designed for...to help you deal with stress by lowering your reaction to it. There are different meds available and sometimes it is just trial & error to find the correct one for your particuliar physical, mental & emotional well-being. The med that I am on can cause drowsiness, insomnia, nausea & a host of other listed side effects. So you really have to look up the particuliar med you are taking. Also, consider how long you have been on the medication. Some of the medications can take up to three weeks and maybe even a little longer to take full effect. Check out Mosby's drug reference book, or other books which will give you information from reliable sources. These type of reference books give you drug interactions, dosages, side effects, adverse reactions and precautions.

It's true that exercise is an excellent stress reduction tool, and this is true for several reasons:
Exercise helps release built-up tension in the body.
Exercise can give you a venue for releasing emotional tension as well.
Exercise releases endorphins and other 'happy hormones' in your body, promoting a feeling of wellbeing.
Exercise helps promote overall health and wellbeing, which can also lessen your experience of stress.
Some forms of exercise allow you to be social, which can also be great for stress reduction. Other forms of exercise can allow you to get into a meditative state. Exercise can also raise feelings of self-esteem and bring other benefits that improve life quality.

Gotta go with exercise; it is the only thing that ever worked for my bouts of depression. Not only does it produce the endorphin high, but it allows your mind to focus differently, so that you are not as boxed in by your problems. If you have a sleep deficit, though, catching up on sleep is important. Often you can exercise vigorously, and then you'll sleep very well and solve both problems.

EXERCISE!!! walk, run, jog or lift weights for thirty minutes and you will feel better guaranteed!
Physical exertion releases enorphins, a natural pain killer that elevates your mood. regular exercise will reduce the amount of adrenal hormones your body releases in response to stress, the ones that make you feel depressed. .
Regular exercise will not only keep your body functioning properly, it keeps you relaxed, feeling refreshed and promotes deep, restful sleep.
