It's still a penny. That's about how much the copper is worth.

A Canadian penny is worth 1 cent (1/100th of a dollar) in Canada. Its current cost of manufacture is 0.8 cents Canadian. For pennies manufactured before 1996, the actual worth of the penny (because of its copper content) is approximately 0.02 dollars Canadian.

To put all those figures in US funds (as of today's exchange rate):
Worth = 1 penny = Cdn $0.01 = US $0.0086937
Manufacture = 0.8 cents = Cdn $0.008 = US $0.0069550
Pre-1996 coins = Cdn $0.02 = US $0.0173875

Actual cash value (presenting a Canadian penny at a US counter) ... 1 cent US.

By the way: all US current pennies (1982-present) are comprised of 97.5% zinc, with 2.5% copper plating. Current Canadian coins (2000-present) are 94% steel, 1.5% nickel, 4.5% copper plated zinc.
(percentages based on weight).

About a penny, these days. All my life the Canadian dollar was worth about 30% less than ours, but events in the last several years have changed that.
