The Bible contains the mind of God,the state of man,the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. The doctrines of the bible are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable.
Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you and comfort to cheer you.
The Bible should fill the memory, rule the heart and guide the feet. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and will be remembered forever.
It involves the highest responsib ility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents,

Bible is short for "Biblios" which really means book. The term has generally been associated with a compilation of books believed to be written by people that were receiving direct revelation from God. These writings are otherwise called Inspired by God. So the Inspired by God writings compiled into one volume have this message from the first to the last that is woven so tightly and so intricately that one who objectively, (without preconceived judgments about the writings) should come to the conclusion that it is definately tied together somehow. How the Bible got to the state it is in now is various. There are many translations available. Some are called literal, others paraphrase and others dynamic, which is a mix of literal and paraphrase to express the ideas that are a little tricky. The original texts that were written in ink by the original author is probably no where to be found. However, the same God that inspired the text in the beginning has preserved the message in the present. The writings commonly referred to as the New Testament are found in Greek. The Old Testament is found in Hebrew or Aramaic or Greek as well because Alexander had it translated when he was compiling books for the library in Alexandria. There are 66 books which span from various genre. There is history, prose, poetry, and personal letters. Check it out, it's good stuff. I believe it's the best reading anywhere. I personally read the ESV but there is a literal version in NASB or even the KJV if you like the Old English appeal. If you want to get the good stuff, though learn Hebrew and read that and learn Greek and read that. I hope your search will lead to the truth.

Of course! What else would it be? I mean, if someone published a book today that had the same story & tried to tell you it really happened would you believe it? I sure wouldn't! I don't even believe the one that was written 2000+ years ago. Just because it's old that does not make it true. ESPECIALLY since back in those ancient times ANYTHING was considered magical! If i were to travel back to those times & do a simple card trick they'd think i were a sorcerer or a messenger from god! They were simple people who had no understanding of the world around them. So they wrote these stories to explain the world. They probably ate some magical mushrooms that gave them the "inspiration" to write these whimsical stories.
The book is just that... a book!
The people that piss me off are the christians who say that "scripture is 100% true & accurate"..... How do you know? Were you there 2000 years ago when it was written? What are you basing your judgement on? HUMANS wrote the bible..... They could've written it for myriad reasons. Comfort, understanding, personal gain... who knows?? Just because something is old that does not mean it's true.
The christians criticize Scientology because their beliefs are ridiculous, but they put their blind faith into something that has no proof either. The writers of the bible are just the L. Ron Hubbards of the ancient world.

If I thought the Bible was only "a bunch of myths and legends," then I wouldn't want to base my life on it, either. But that's not what it is—not at all.
This is why I invite you to discover the Bible for yourself, and not simply go on what you've heard others say about it. You see, the Bible tells us about real events and real people—people who faced the same challenges we do, and had the same hopes and dreams we have. But many of them had another dimension to their lives also: a spiritual dimension. The reason wasn't just because they believed in God, but because they knew God in a personal way. We can, too.
Most of all, the Bible tells us about Jesus Christ. It tells us who He was and what He did; most of all it tells us He was God in human flesh, sent from heaven to save us from sin and death and judgment. Do you honestly want to know what God is like? Look at Jesus Christ, for in Him "all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form" (Colossians 2:9). He proved it by doing something no one else has ever done: He rose from the dead.
Don't let pride, or fear, or anything else keep you from the Bible, and from the One who is its center: Jesus Christ. When you honestly examine it, you'll discover the greatest truth anyone can ever know: God loves you, and He will change your life as you open your heart to Christ.

Sure, some of the stories Jesus told are parables. He did this so that everyone can understand the meaning of what He was trying to say. By reading the verses in context, you will know which is literal and which is not. That doesn't make it any less true. The bible is God breathed, it is His word.

i think that everything in the bible is there for a reason...god didnt just throw in some fairytales to keep us reading it...every story in the bible can be applied to our lives...somehow and someway...maybe not at this exact moment but later down the road when you are struggling with something similar to the story.
