when you file married jointly do you just add up however much taxes you and your spouse have together and start filling out the form from there or what?

If you are using a software program then just follow directions, if you are doing it all by hand, then yes you would add the numbers together. Box 1 from yours with Box 1 from theirs, etc and put the totals on the paper.---I highly recommend using Turbo Tax, or H&R Blocks Tax software though. They make it real easy and simple to follow

Just follow the form. Try Turbo Tax online too. It's pretty good.
