In regards to what? There are many different circuit types. Are you looking at home wiring? Are you looking at chip designs (ie. flip-flop). More info would help.

If you are talking about the switches that let you turn on a house light from two different locations here is that answer. If not you need to get more specific.

Three wires connect those two switches (like one switch at each end of the hallway). The switches have a contact that can be flipped to touch either of the other switch contacts ("double throw"). One of the wires has the source electricity and connects to each switch. Each of the other two wires is connected to the other contacts on the switch. When both switches point up they are both connected to the same wire and can pass electricity to the lamp. When both switches point down they are both connected to the same other wire and can pass electricity to the lamp. If one is up and the other down there is no path for electricity and the lamp is off

I'm assuming you mean a three-way light switch, where you can turn the light on or off from more than one location.
