Isn't it basically the most popular version of any idea or story? How can there be an absolute truth?

"Truth" is in the eye of the beholder.

No, it's definitely not based on popularity. Look at history. At one time most people thought the world was flat. It was also once the most popular belief that the solar system revolved around the Earth.

Some people believe they know the truth, but that may differ from the absolute truth.

Of course there is absolute truth. There is an objective reality that DID happen and IS happening no matter if we don't know about it or deny it. Consensus on something does not equal truth, even if said consensus coincides with the truth.

Example: I walked to work yesterday. I could have told you that I drove, and I could have told everyone else that I drove. After repeating it to myself enough even I could believe that I drove. It would thus go down in history that I drove to work yesterday, but it would not change the ABSOLUTE TRUTH that I walked.

If you asked Jesus, he'd tell you
"God's word (Bible) is truth."
In fact he did say that at John 17:17.
Popularity should have nothing to do with truth.
Many popular ideas, that even lasted for centuries, were realized to be erroneous.
e.g. The earth is flat.
BTW Did you know the Bible always said the earth was round? Isaiah 40:22.
Hhmmmm, maybe Jesus was right.

-Well Deke, there's truth and there's Truth. The little truth simply requires the acknowledgment of reality. If there is something that is real, then there is empirical truth. Then there is the big Truth, and that would require imbuing reality with inherent meaning. Then you have spiritual truth. That's the one I think you find questionable character, and reasonable to doubt.

Truth is what reality is. And yes, I do believe in absolute truth. How can all the religions be right if they contradict each other so much?

An absolute truth is something that applies to everyone in every situation.
An example would be to Love others as yourself.

Biblically speaking, the truth in the bible is the word of God that was written. The teachings of God, the commandments of God or law of God. The truth about God

There was a special on HBO about this- I forgot what it was called but they talked about paul revere and how he wasn't the one to ride through town with the whole "the red coats are coming" hoopla- It was someone who's first name was Israel (I forget his last name) and someone just made up a better story and it stuck

Truth is correspondence with reality. For example, if I say, "My cat is pregnant," and if, in reality, my cat really is pregnant, then my statement is true.

I'm not sure what you mean by absolute truth or how it differs from ordinary truth. Truth is truth. If a statement corresponds to reality, then it's true, and if it doesn't correspond with reality, then it's not true.
