Berber Carpet Vs Regular Carpet

I don't know what "regular" would be.
The type of carpet most suitable for a home depends on ones lifestyle, whether they have pets, small children, a pool.

Berber has been a fashion trend for several years, but it can have some drawbacks. Pets, small children with some toys, can play havoc. Food and/or beverage spills can be difficult to clean. These can become quite entangled in the large berber loops.

As far as fiber, nylon absorbs less than one percent of it's weight in moisture. Wool may absorb about 90 %. however, a good quality wool does clean well. It's just very important that one does not "RUB" the pile. This will fray the wool fibers or others as well. Bear in mind that wool is short in length and spun into yarn. Nylon is usually continuous filiment, although some are staple and short like wool. These create a different finish to carpet.

If you are considering berber, my best suggestion is loops that are small, not the very large loops.

In today's market, some nylons are as expensive as wools, so you have to choose. The best wools have always been raised in high elevations, year round cold climates. The fibers are hard, longer, stronger, and more resistent to absorbing spills.
Many wools are suitable for clothing only but may land in carpet..

I have Berber for the first time ever; have lived in this house for 5 years. It will get pulls but they can be repaired easily; our carpet man showed me how. You use glue (I'll use SuperGlue GEL next time, not Elmers like he did) and just push the pull back into place with a dull narrow instrument. At all the doorways there's odd looking places - I think from the installation process. I love the texture and the fact dirt doesn't seem to work down into the carpet as bad - though I'm not sure I'd do Berber again.

i have had 65 ounce 1/2 inch high loop berber olefin/nylon for 17 years. Love everything except that heavy furniture like the posts of my bed have utterly crushed carpet. i think olefin is to blame for this. never had any pets. always seemed to easily clean. i am in process of replacing these carpets (about 150 yards) and quite frankly will choose a pure nylon or wool this time, hopefully still berber. at 50-60 per square yard i hope

berber is not so much of a fashion trend than a smart decision. to the contrary of the other guy(i don't knowwhere he is getting his carpet from) berber is one of the most reliable, durable and easily cleanable carpets. it is not a soft fluffy carpet that will make your feet feel warm and fuzzy, but if you have pets especially it doens't hold in the hair, vaccuums with ease and will last a lifetime! i have berber in almost every room in my house(except where there is hardwood) and i love it!
for stains you can actually buy some that is scotchguarded or stain resistant

I hate it, Landlords use it all the time and its so hard to keep clean. Plus it has a life span of 2-5 yrs (I used to sell carpet) And it so epensive to keep replacing. I'm having mine thrown out of the main areas and replaced with hardwood, then the rooms are being replaced with actual carpet with pile. The homes you buy have the more expensive carpet. Landlords will cheap out and put the junk in there.

I love Berber. I've had it throughout my house for about six years now and it still looks great. Beautiful and low maintenance.
