You can use the DVD player except during takeoff and landing. Once you are up the crew will tell you it is okay to use electronics. When the plane is getting ready to descend they will tell you to turn them off. Just follow their instructions.

Yes, according to the FAR's all portable electronics except for those with an internal transmitter are approved to be used during flight. The 10,000 feet rule is because during climb and descent is when the airlines would be most likely to have a problem. Additionaly all the electronic noise could potentially interfere with the VOR system established on an IFR approach. Airlines do have the power to set their own polocy's dealign with electronic devices, but I have never seen an airlien which prohibited the use of DVD players about 10,000 feet.

It depends. When flying on US airlines, I never had a problem with that. When flying on a Korean Air international flight, we were told not to use our own electronics for listening to music. This was not really a problem, though-they provided headphones to everyone (no additional cost) so they could listen to the music selection provided by the airline. You picked your own playlist or used one of the premade lists, and listened to that.

It's all about regulations...the FAA only controls US reg.s. Other countries have their own systems.

I'd call the airline before packing just to be sure.

yes they do. anything electronic that does not send a satelite signal (eg, MP3 Players, portable DVD players, laptops etc) are allowd to be used on an aircraft, but only when the flight attendants say so.

GPS's, Cell phones and other things that send and recieve satelite signals are not allowed to be used on aircraft.

Definately yes. Above 10000. The flight attendants should make an announcement letting you know when it is ok to use portable electronic devices. Once they do, get it out. When they signal that you are on descent into your destination, you will have to put it away.

Enjoy your flight.

My boys use one every time we fly. As soon as the captain approves portable electronics, after getting to altitude - it comes out!

Good luck!
